Invasion of the webcam ads

Recently I have been getting message windows that pop-up on my screen with ads for various web cam sites.  This is not the normal pop-ups I get when I'm surfing some porn site.  These pop up out of the blue while I'm doing something else as long as I'm connected to the internet.

I'm running Windows 2000 and McAfee Firewall.  But maybe my settings one the firewall aren't restrictive enough.

Also recently I discovered and removed the "rapidblaster" adware/spyware on my machine.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you use Netscape you can stop the pop ups. IE doesn't have that feature. Also try Zonealarm.

How did you remove RapidBlaster.  You must make sure it is completely gone.  Do a search on your harddrive for rb32 if you it remove it.

It turns out the correct name for what I was experiencing is "messenger spamming".  I just disabled the messenger service as per the instructions on RQdN that MartinLuther has linked to in his response to a related thread.

For whatever reason my firewall was not blocking the messages.

Thanks to everyone who replied and especially to MartinLuther.

Even if you don't have this problem you should read the RQdN article so you will not be caught off-guard if it happens to you.
