In New Mexico which (I think) was on NBC's Dateline on 12/11, titled "Some Body's Daughter" Fascinating and very sad stuff. Here is a snippet:

The latest news is they're no longer so sure it's a serial killer.  They thought one of the bodies might be a girl who worked as an escort in NJ but that turned out not to be true.  Hope she's OK.

it's important that these "possibilities" are investigated and taken seriously.l

Shannon G. is the name of the woman who has been missing since May.  She was was suspected to be one of the bodies but "she is not believed to be one of the bodies so far."  (Not sure exactly what that means, since all of the reports I've read have said that it will take about a month to get DNA results on the bodies.)

Megan W. is the name of the woman who has been missing since May after placing an ad to meet a client on Long Island.

Both of the above were/are (hopefully they still are alive and ARE) escorts who placed ads on "The Adult Site That No Longer Exists."

I feel it's important to honor them by mentioning their names but I excluded their last names as I know the rules here are against posting full names of anybody.

We discussed this case at my city's local vigil and march this past Friday, December 17.  It was a beautiful, powerful event and I hope that many more of you also participated but choose to remain silent on this public forum for reasons of discretion.

*Thanks to DDDBabe for the post re:the 17th!*

This is why we need to legalize prostitution. It is a joke that 2 adults can't exchange money for sex. Hell, alimony is legal. Thats the same thing in my opinion.

This is a common mistake people make--I used to do it too.  But we want prostitution decriminalized, not legalized.  Legalizing it will allow for it to be run similar to brothels--where the workers pay a certain fee to an owner, is not truly independent, restricted to certain neighborhoods, etc... Basically highly regulated and legislated.

If this were to happen, I feel a number of ladies would continue operating their business just as they donow:  being completely independent escorts who select their patrons themselves, keeping their earnings for themselves, etc... thereby still risking "getting in trouble" to some extent or another.

Decriminalization repeals the laws against consensual sexual activity between adults for the exchange of goods, money, etc...

Just wanted to clarify that since I'm sure that's what you meant!  :)

but it depends on the country. See in France it's legal but no third party can be involved so you don't have a choice to be independent. They took all the brothels down, cleaned up the streets and really went after the pimps. Everything is considered pimping i.e web masters, Eros type web sites for advertising, if your live in SO doesn't pay the bills and you do, he's considered your pimp, even your accountant can be considered your pimp if you're not careful. I know it's extreme. It's legal but the advertising isn't, it's considered soliciting. Go figure. I prefer how it is in Canada; it's not legal but not criminal.

once big brother gets his fingers in the kitty so to speak they will make laws that make it difficult to do what we do the way we want to.
The government once again will try and control and regulate it all. They have no place in this business. What I do with my body should be no ones business. We will be treated like 2nd class citizens.
Decriminalization just allows us to work without fearing arrest and prosecution.
Its all good.
