They waited this long.
Congratulations to Al Gore and the Internationl Panel on Climate Change for winning the most prestigious prize in the world:
"for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change"
- the Nobel Committee
The history of the man whose name bears this prize is questionable and while I think that AGs work is notable, it didn't make my list of great accomplishments. The lady who saved more than 2500 children from the death grip of Nazi Germany gets my vote.
Sad that some of the other nominees were not taken more seriously - these include:
Martti Ahtisaari, for decades of peace mediation
Vietnamese monk Thich Quang Do for pro-democracy efforts.
Russian human rights lawyer Lidia Yusupova, who fought for victims of war in Chechnya
Rebiya Kadeer, an advocate for China's Uighur minorit
But then again, let us look at some past nominees to put this into perspective.
Hitler was nominated in 1939. Joseph Stalin and Benito Mussolini were also nominated! Some of the awards now appear, with hindsight, questionable, such as the awards given to Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin, Yasser Arafat, Lê Ðức Thọ, and Henry Kissinger.
So yea, this award is really up there! Certainly makes me think of Al - I intented the internet - Gore in a much different light! like "in the dark"!
Clueless yahoos.
Really "awards that are given" are all subjective and more often than not, EXTREMELY LAME! I find it deplorable that networks like E, shows like Entertainment Tonight (if that's even still on), and rags like People Magazine go into a frenzy everytime there's an awards show like the Grammys or the Oscars. I mean don't these people realize how pathetic they are? A few things to consider: Jethro Tull wins the first ever Grammy for the Heavy Metal category for an album that was not metal and was an embarassment to Tull's previous body of work, "The English Patient" won the Best Picture Oscar after it came out, and let's not forget that Milli Vanilli won a Grammy (need I say more)! So, awards like these as well as Nobel's and Pulitzer's are all tremendous jokes to me. I only wish the media paid as little attention to the Grammy's and Oscars as they do to the Nobel's and Pulitzer's. Instead we get the hipocrisy of Joan Rivers and her skank daughter critiquing what the celebs on the red carpet are wearing. WHO THE FUCK CARES??? That Joan's opinions and comments are actually compensated for, with the way SHE looks (even after 25+ plastic surgeries) is probably the greatest example of how fucked up our country is.
You hit the nail dead center. I could not have said it better. Long live Rush!
They waited this long.
like before his theories are proven WRONG! then where would we be? Frickin a... with another peace prize given to the likes of men who fail to really promote humanitrainism or peace. and that would be a waste...
What's saving 2500 children from Nazis compared to making the quintessential documentry. Its got lesbian Sheryl Crowe singing in it. Need I say more? Ken Burns makes may head hurt. But Al Gore makes me want to tell people how to live. He's the next Michael Moore, in girth and creativity. He makes documentry the narrative fiction it is today.
entertainment chain.... she is kinda into the envirnomental thing.... not a bad thing... but mostly these people focus on the wrong issues... OVERPOPULATION.... that is where the focus needs to be.
Well Said Greatrush. I seem to remember something about Global Cooling not so long ago. Just after the last Ice Age quite a few large animals became trapped in the Tar Pits in LA. Maybe AG should go there for more clues on Global Warming.
regardless of the junk science the original work was based on. Gore's movie is filled with scientific nonsense - Climate change is a serious subject that has been politicized to the point where very few actually strive to learn the truth, or to put the studies and statistics in context.
I read the article and I still don't understand what Global Warming has to do with peace.
Global warming is real; the question is whether humans have anything to do with it.
I'm not disagreeing with your main premise, but how do you counter someone else's "nonsense" by a Wiki link? Wiki is where all the internet garbage goes to find permanent housing.
This “man-made climate change” stuff is all pure malarkey.
Of course he also considers 'The Flinstones' as a historical documentary.
You might want to consider doing a bit of homework before posting your thoughts in public...
Are you talking about the global warming part, or the Flintstones part? Sorry, but with the IQ of our current fearless leader, the answer isn't that clear.
Do you mean that each is dumber than a squash, or that together, they're still dumber than a squash? In either case, you won't find much dissent here.
Well, except to say on behalf of my brother from another mother in Atlanta...your comment really isn't very kind to members of the vegetable family.

I posted on the wrong board by mistake. I'll repost now.
because climatology is a massive delusion.
Anyway, Jesus is gonna be back in 2 weeks, so who GAS anyway?
in point of fact, Gore's depiction of events fail to reflect even the contents of the IPCCs reports. closer to Gore's conclusions are the political summary of the contents of the report.
It should also be noted that if we really want to alter the earth to a more non-humankind influenced planet, then we should reduce the population (yet another reason I support the hobby!) See the graph- that is the ONLY graph that matters.
as for gore? well, he is out to make more money. Not a good choice for the committee.

we can't forget it.
I would just like to announce tonight that we of the IPCC will be starting a new campaign for International Beautification.
Toward this end, we have arranged the gracious contribution of 1 million ladies razors from Gillette, to be delivered to Baghdad, for distribution throughout the Mideast. We are recruiting fairy hairdressers starting in West Hollywood and San Francisco, and our goal, by 2025, is a 25% reduction in burkas throughout the mideast, with no significant regional increase in intestinal disorders.
For American women, we have reached an agreement with the noted philosopher and vicarious athlete, R. Lee Ermey, who will organize our Pills for Pushups program, allowing American women to trade their pills in for credits in their local gym club. They will be allowed to ride stationary bikes and similar equipment, hooked up to the power grid, while our DIs explain philosophy to them. Our goal is a 37% increase in bed pushups, by the end of the decade.
We are lobbying the Mexican government to ban the use of lard, and replace it with nice Italian olive oil. Our goal is a 42% reduction in body mass in Latin women over age 25, by 2030. Ay caramba!
We are researching psychotropic drugs to make lipstick lezzies amendable to bisexual date rape. We hope for a 32% conversion rate within 10 years.
And finally, we will donate $100M to makeovers of the women of the English royal family and their courtiers, in an ongoing project.
Now all of you gentlemen are welcome to join me at the bar. Please leave your wood at your tables. HarryJ, we cannot pay your tab.
... because pollution is dirty, people! I don't want to live in filth. If there's a way to cut down on pollution, we should do it even if it's based on a fallacy.
BTW, for those who don't know, the insurance companies are the biggest proponents of climate change "prevention" and study. They don't know if global warming is real or not, but they stand to lose the most if it does turn out to be real. Plus they don't have to spend a dime to prevent it: the tax-payers and the big industrial companies will foot the bill. Insurance companies are just doing what they've always done: wisely hedging their bets.
But if climate change turns out to be real, it's probably not a bad thing. The world changes, and species adapt or die out. Is that not nature's way? People are animals, and therefore everything we do is natural, including heating up the planet.

so it's OK for you to do it too.
Female spiders and mantises eat the males, and if you don't think that is natural, just go down & watch a couple episodes of your local divorce court.
Go Nature!!
I didn't say we should immitate the other animals. I said that since humans are animals, then everything we do is natural. It's natural for dogs to eat their own shit. And it's natural for people to release pollution into the air, unfortunately. But not vice versa. Humans don't eat feces on purpose (most of us) and dogs don't drive General Motors vehicles (mine likes Toyotas LOL).
isn't all that natural shit good stuff?
