What the quiz’s authors estimate about those of us who rank the characters in this order:>>Such an emphatic rejection of ready-made values in probably partly camouflage. You hate to be thought weak or insecure. You value honesty, and abominate humbug and hypocrisy.>>(Men) Women are very much part of you life, and you are or perhaps would like to be -- quite ruthless, both with women and life in general.>>(Women) You are tolerant about men and their failings -- but we mean men, for you have no time for boys on men's errands.  The accuracy of this is kinda scary. What it tells me is that I valued Sheriff’s honesty (in the sense that he didn't lie or pretend), without giving much consideration to the morality of his actions and that I was quick to distrust Little John, who I saw as an opportunist. The question has prompted me to examine the priority of my values, which it’s intended to do.  Thank you for it, Mathesar. Now, wasn't someone saying something about Champagne and chocolate?  :-)

VALUES VERIFICATION EXERCISEHow moral are you? What is your attitude to morals, sex and honesty? The fascinating personality test below was written by aSydney marriage expert who is a qualified psychologist. Itbegan as a dinner party conversation gimmick, but it hasbeen prepared in this form for readers to test themselves. To do the "test" you must give your honest opinion aboutmorals and honesty of the four characters in our story ofSherwood Forest. Forget any preconceived ideas you may aboutthem -- this is a different sort of Story from all theothers."The Sheriff of Nottingham captured Little John and RobinHood and imprisoned them in his maximum-security dungeon.Maid Marion begged the Sheriff for their release, pleadingher love for Robin. The Sheriff agreed to release them onlyif Maid Marion spent the night with him. To this she agreed. The next morning the Sheriff released his prisoners. Robinat once demanded that Marion tell him how she persuaded theSheriff to let them go free. Marion confessed the truth, andwas bewildered when Robin abused her, calling her a slut, and saying that he never wanted to see her again. At this Little John defended her, inviting her to leaveSherwood with him and promising lifelong devotion. Sheaccepted and they rode away together."Now in terms of realistic everyday standards of behavior, put Robin, Marion, Little John and the Sheriff in the orderin which you consider they showed the most morality andhonesty. There is no "right" answer, and the following is thepsychologist's estimate of you for each of the arrangements.>Don't scroll down until you have made your list.>>>>>>>>>>Don't scroll down till you've made your list otherwise itwon't work!>>>>>>>>>>>>Here goes.......ROBIN, MARION, SHERIFF, LITTLE JOHN:You find it hard to accept the permissive attitudes ofothers, or to convince them of the validity of your ownstandards. You are not disposed to trust people and do nothave a very happy life.>>(Men) To "love" involves sex and duty, rather than charityand forgiveness.>>(Women) You blame men for much of the unhappiness in yourlife.ROBIN, MARION, LITTLE JOHN, SHERIFF:Your philosophy of life is a sad hotchpotch of theconventions of society, your own convictions andromanticism. You are not unkind, only staid andunimaginative.>>(Men) You see a woman as weak but desirable.>>(Women) Your resent the arrogance of men.ROBIN, SHERIFF, MARION, LITTLE JOHN:>>(Men) We think you are unhappy, although you probably willnot admit it. An idealist, a moralist, aconformist keeping up with Jones's?>>(Men) Your conflicting views on sex and morality may leadto every sort sexual problem. You have always feared women, probably starting with your mother.>>(Women) It is a shame you have not accepted the ideal ofwoman as the equal (and sometimes stronger) partner of man.LITTLE JOHN, MARION, ROBIN, SHERIFF:You are fairly broadminded romantic and reasonablycontented. You are not veryadventurous, but this does not bother you.LITTLE JOHN, SHERIFF, MARION, ROBIN:You too, believe that morality is another word forcommonsense and suitability, and not somethingwhich is universally valid or a religious truth. A womanmay find you difficult to live with.>>(Women) You are not sure whether truth and morality gohand in hand or are in opposition. You haven't a very highopinion of men.MARION, ROBIN, LITTLE JOHN, SHERIFF:If you are not happy -- and we suspect you are not -- itmaybe because you feel guilty about your own emotions, andlack confidence in your opinions.>>(Men) No doubt you consider yourself a moral man, and afair one. Your fuzzy ideas about morality may make theirmark on your sex life.>>(Women) You are too concerned about what others think.MARION, LITTLE JOHN, SHERIFF, ROBIN:You are essentially a contented person, even if you consideryourself a little superior. You are moral by your ownstandards, for you believe that morality is what best suitsthe occasion.>>(Men) You are sexually uninhibited, more romantic than youmay appear, and more dependent on the approval of othersthan you care to admit.>>(Women) You like being a woman, you understand what loveis, and frankly enjoy sex.MARION, LITTLE JOHN, ROBIN, SHERIFF:We would expect you to be a happy, well-balanced person wholikes people and is like by others. Perhaps a view thatyou got from your father? Or as a reaction to a domineeringmother?>>(Women) You have a pretty poor opinion of yourself, haven't you?SHERIFF, LITTLE JOHN, MARION, ROBIN:You have a confused, immature sense of values. Hi,This was fun.  Glad I made my list before I looked at what it meant.  I think the description fits.Thought ore would try this, as I have a feeling some of the other providers would have similar description, as well as some of the clients. Thanks for sharing it with us,Mathesar.Sweet Dreams,  Susie

I followed the same order. I guess Fair Maid Marion seemed like the real herione in all of this. Willing to compromise herself to rescue her fellow men! She was, after all not going to be able to come after them in combat with any degree of success. Although, twould have been a better tale had she in the middle of being forced to submitt to the will of Sheriff found a way to disable him from picking on any more Maids...Robin Hood was an ingrate! However, not an untypical real life scenario, ummm, if anything like that ever comes up on day to day life.LOL! You DID WHAT to save my life??? You slut you! Theres the door. (to himself:" I just found my excuse to go visit that pretty little milk maid down the lane.")Kisses,Nicole

Oh Nicole!! Not surprised that we matched one another.  I felt good about the outcome, even after examining my motives for my choices.Well, you know what they say, a match in one area at least, leads to more exciting fun with one another ;-)Yes its too bad marion did not disable the sheriff so he could not go after the milk maids, but those milk maids are pretty strong women!Robin Hood is pond scum.  Good riddance if he leaves maid marion, shes better off without him.:-)Hope you are having a wonderful day, Nic.Sweet Dreams,  susie

It's only fair that I post my choices now that others are posting their's.

Since I started this, it is only fair that I post my choices.Yes, I do think the description is pretty accurate.  Accurate enough to be a little scary.  And yes, it did make me think about my values.

Ok, for me it was:1) Marion2) Little-John3) Robin4) The Sheriff. Here's why (IMHO you may not agree):1) Marion: because she was just trying to get her friends out of trouble, and went out of her way to do it.2) Little-John: Obviously more appreciative than Robin of Marion's efforts.  Although by the looks of it he did run-off with his friend's girlfriend.3) Robin: His only crime is not being appreciative enough of Marion's efforts.4) The Sheriff: He's an immoral explotive bastard.

morning and left Robin to rot in jail.  Marion could not have forced him to keep his bargin, but he did keep it.  Ruthless and exploitative Sheriff is, but he apparently does have a sense of honor.  That is what is beautiful about this quiz.  I think all the characters are ambiguous.  What leaps out at you says almost as much about you as it does them.
