That's just one example.
I'm in Vegas and that rate is way low. Not sure you could get disease free sex with a woman you'd look at for that price. NY, SF and LA & London all seem even more expensive to me.
Does the article's price ring true for any of you?
"The study focused on the business side, rather than on consumers, and researchers conducted more than 250 interviews with law enforcement officers, lawyers, pimps, sex traffickers, prostitutes and child pornographers, many of whom were in jail. Those interviews provide a wealth of data on pricing, market structures and the sex workers’ motivations."
250 interviews to be spread across 8 cities, and to include 6 different types of people, and many of whom were in jail? If evenly distributed that provides for about 30 people per city and about 5 per category, hardly a sample size
Not only a small sample size per city/category, the ones in jail tend to be the less discreet/less professional ie. lower paid types. Correct me if I'm wrong. I mean, I know I'm generalizing and anyone can get caught, but...
figuring out a "going rate", they could have come up with more empirical evidence using a combination of TER, Eros, and Backpage, aggregating hundreds of points across different cities and these 3 sites.
That is actually how I came up with my rate, I believe that is actually close to the average in NYC taking both the low end and high end. I started at 175 nearly a year ago, because my only data came from Backpage, which ranged from 125-300, once TER and Eros came into the picture, I extrapolated I was below average (no pun intended).
There is way too much upselling going on with BP girls. So much so that I've sworn off BP girls that do not have pages in TER that have solid reviews. I'd much rather pay more and know there won't be a "buzz kill" for lack of a better term.
Also many of the bp hourly rates are 160 to 200 an hour. You might see a few in the 120 to 150 range if you're into babes. If you want Greek they upsell for extra to 200 or more an hour.
or more eloquently "Fuck that". I've got better ways to spend my time. I'm not looking for a bargain. I'm looking to get my world rocked. I'm certainly not looking for a woman who looks nothing like her photos, is uninspired and can't wait for me to O so she can leave. I'd much rather enjoy the impression that she wants me to be there for 2-3 hours and then, goodnight darling.
I feel for any woman subject to the mercy of a pimp and getting turned out at whatever rate the pimp sets. But the MSM as usual presumes the worst about P4P--that providers are all being exploited by some predator. And yes we all know that happens. But clearly the researchers didn't bother talking to any independent ladies and as we all know averages can be totally misleading. I imagine 150 is about right if you only see BP girls and street walkers but that wouldn't get you a hand shake with most of the ladies I see reviewed here.
Been both ways (and more, over seas) had the 600hr$ hooker and have a few of the 150$ (200$ with tip) and my 150$ girls get alot, alot more of my business. 4 5 times a month seeing them
...insomuch as, as Chauncey pointed out, the difference between a pimped out woman and an independent companion really don't belong in the same category. It's like conducting a survey on how much people spend on eating out by making the rounds of various chicken and hamburger fast-food chains.
And, as Cosette said, the sample size is far to small, and the results belied by ads on the most popular malls.
And, no, it doesn't mention up-selling.
Maybe instead of doing a survey on the business side, data collected from where clients turn for services would be more revealing. My hunch is that clients experiment with various price ranges, starting out low-balling and refining their tastes upwards. Then they settle at prices somewhere between the top and the bottom. It WOULD be interesting to find out what THAT price range is. If that's true, the people who stay in the hobby the longest will spend higher fees per session, and that would push the aggregate price up.
But, if companions providing this service on an independent basis were taken completely out of the equation, and simply viewed as part of a community of adults who experimented with sharing sexual experiences, and financing the activity through donations primarily from the male citizens of that community, then it the terms usually applied to blatant prostitution would be anachronistic. And, in one sense, couldn't really be termed prostitution
Called and money oriented and lunatic and even an idiot by those who is ok with those low rate prostitute. And johns by the way. Sooo yes rate is a guarantee of STD free woman and the best services which can not be classifies as "menu" "hourly". It is why I just practice safe sex with safe gentlemen from 1000. Thank you for nice essay which actually is a help for me for expression of who I am . I just feel a lot of pain to be so badly mistreated when it comes about money as I always say money amount is just a tool to locate safe men clients same as gentlemen looking for women you willing to relax totally so and we women have to be selective

Go on NYC regional and look up her statement's, i think it's few weeks old or a month, funny part she after stating it attempted to start to advertise as a pornstar lol failed!!! ow well, guessing real porn ladies objected for her to start advertise as a porn girl
I do not have desire to be a porno star for common observation.
I just by my skills and character is a porno star and what I do is better then porno stars that all
Real men know that what a strange men are here I guess you never been with real women not a hookers not porno stars by profession but real ones who doing it all privately and better then a pro by the way now I put this my skill to pro but that doesnot mean I need become part of crowd
OMG, I'm still crying historically bahahahaha "what I do is better then porno stars that all "
You keep telling your self that you young and pretty, ow and that you better when porn stars.
grammy who takes in the ass without protection, yep you go girl! so funny
That's just one example.
Do they think they can tame the sex industry?
I doubt if they even know where to begin.
Small pool of data.
Limited market analysis.
BP/Streetwalkers/Pimps as primary data points.
Flawed methodology.
Model has Garbage In, therefor Garbage Out.
It's like asking how much bank fraud costs us. Bust a bunch of crack heads using stolen cards, and exclude the majority of billions of dollars stolen by Wall Street execs by manipulating the bond markets, commodities scams, and mortgage abuses. Averages don't add up by excluding data
Note that the NYT article pays most attention to pimps and SW's. That's the lower end of the hobby spectrum, where danger from criminals, ROB's, pimps, and LE potentially lurks in every shadow. Caveat Emptor in spades!
In Vegas, NYC, and most other cities in the USA, expect to pay much more to play with quality ladies that will deliver a memorable experience worth paying for. The best things in life never come cheap...
That's debatable, and I would probably side with the majority. Given the responses to this thread.
Now if I was to go to my local ACLU office tomorrow. They may be able to convince me that this initiative unfairly targets. People who are most likely from a lesser social economic background. Thus constituting this initiative as tactic of class warfare.

...it may be to support the social perspective that prostitution victimizes both women and men, thereby sanctioning strict enforcement of vice laws and calling for a crackdown on P4P in all forms.
To say that it is NOT part of an agenda is to assume that it is a pure observation. In other words, purely scientific. Scientific studied of phenomena collect much larger samples of data, make sure the data is uncontaminated, present the data without preconceived conclusions, and submit their observations for peer group analyses and review. Lacking such criteria, it's safe to assume that the article was written with populist intent, and the nature of that intent can easily be gleaned by the tone and manner of presentation. So, yes, they have an agenda. (IMO, of course)
I doubt the UI is here to help you, or anyone else.

They limit the sample size to come to the conclusion they want to push.
Obviously, they only took a sampling from the "lower end of the market" just as Crazy Diamond indicated.
They even mentioned sites like Craig's List and Backpage.
How often do you see $60 - $100 sessions advertised by girls on BP? It seems to be more the norm than the exception.
I guess we should be happy about the fact that they didn't interview any of us from TER ...... LOL!!
Let them work on cleaning up the BP girls, pimps, etc. and leave us alone.
That makes sense if you consider how many of those girls are BP or CL, where prices are much lower than TER girls.
Still, I found the whole survey kind of silly and their method of getting data very spotty.
Assuming you see a TER lady every month, you could easily drop $5k/year or MUCH more. That is not supportable if you make an average income. The conclusion that I would draw is that TER members who actively purse the "hobby" have a MUCH higher income than average. Actually, you would think that there is a luxury branding opportunity for somebody in terms of high end sports cars - the TER limited edition Porsche ?!..... but I digress....
If you assume that only 5% of men qualify from an income standpoint to basically throw away that kind of money every year AFTER TAXES, then $150/hr begins to sound reasonable as an average. Looking at BP - it actually sounds a little high. Obviously, you can play with the numbers all you like and poo-poo the statistical validity -- but if you look at P4P over the ENTIRE income range, $150 per "date" is probably about all the traffic will bear. The working man has gotta get laid too and there are a lot more of them than there are of us.
And NO - if you are reading this - you are NOT an average working man. Nor are you a streetwalker that that guy might see. We ain't average - get used to it
