It depends.
At one time medical professionals asserted that ADHD only occurred in children, AND that they outgrew it. IE, did not exist in adults.
It was only after getting in touch with a woman I dated in college, way back last century, during the mythical times of the late 60s, early 70s, that I heard of ADHD in adults.
Seems as if someone questioned the mythology and discovered many adults had ADHD.
When she described her symptoms, I heard much of my life story, except I do not have the hyper activity. Turns out the hyper activity does not rule out a brain being structured for ADD.
I get board easily, easily distracted, UNLESS I find something fascinating; then I am super focused, my surroundings disappear, I loose track of time. Even when I pay attention to the time, I always think I can just finish what I’m doing and leave on time. But, I loose track of time—run late a lot when I'm doing something interesting.
Another symptom is that I forget where I'm headed. When I ride down a road I normally travel, I keep going that way, past where I should turn. Instant lateness.
When I worked, I had a routine of getting up at the same time, leaving at the same time, drive the same route—rarely late. Yup, I'm retired now.
I've always been independent, many years on my own. I can keep myself entertained, find something to do; I usually bring a magazine to appointments so that I have something to read, something interesting to do. Clean my motorcycle while waiting; I live on a dirt road so it's always dusty.
Plus, I don't ware a watch any more—clocks in every room of my house, even bathrooms and on my motorcycle. The result is I never know how late my Dr was for my appointment (unless it's a practice that does not take any insurance, Dr are ALWAYS late!)
The last three years of my wife's life we were constantly going to Dr appointments. She lived in constant pain—pain Dr two medications, GP for referrals and regular appointments—three medications, Dr to take care of depression because of constant pain and life on pain meds Medical testing and then another Dr because of kidney failure with following 3 appointments weekly for dialysis.
No Dr was on time, testing facilities were pretty close but they NEVER sent results to Dr office; drs offices screwed up billing; pharmacies would have a problem filling a prescription and NEVER call us' insurance co wouldn't handle referrals in a timely manor; person in a Dr office that did referrals would go on vacation with no one to do referrals; referral person would quit.
Hospitals, more of the same!! NEVER leave someone you love in a hospital alone!! Bring all of your medications, especially pain meds because you cannot rely upon a hospital to have the staff so that you get what you need, and with pain meds at the time you are supposed to.
An escort running late? I wait a reasonable amount of time and then inquire about how much longer.
