LOVE love love anyone with guts enough to tell the truth or at least *f* around a little just for fun.  If this is real, he clearly didn't care what others thought about him, which I respect thoroughly.

Please tell me this is real!

Now this was not a regular occurrence, but they did come in groups to see a pal of theirs who frequented my favorite drinking establishment. They actually did this late in life, but you just have to understand these guys and how they lived life.
I do not know if the story is true or not and I did not know him other than i can state these guys loved to drink. But it is something he or any of them might have done. There were many stories.... Which I expect were true.

Jim Bouton wrote about the behind-the-scenes exploits of the sixties Yankees, at a time when most sports books were silly, fluffy, hero-worship pieces. He was villified by many for a while, and I think that Mick was pissed at him at first, but in a way Bouton paved the way for a lot of these guys to tell the truth - what the hell, everybody knows about it now...

Bouton painted Mick as a phenomenal athlete physically hobbled by injuries and mentally compromised by the belief that he was probably going to die young from Hodgkins. The outcome was that he generally didn't give a f*ck about what he said or did, and just lived to have a good time.
