TER General Board

Timothy McVeigh will be dead.  Good riddance, or the beginning of something worse?

Like many of you on this board, for different reasons entirely of course, McVeigh is disenchanted with our government.  On a smaller scale, there are a few here who have been introduced to the “system” and received a civics lesson they wish they hadn’t.  The riots in Los Angeles were fostered in part from a disenchantment with Government.

I guess the response of the participants here with respect to prostitution is to simply disobey the law, kind of like what happened with the 55 mph speed limit.  What happens though if enforcement is ever truly taken seriously and more of you go to jail?

Yes, people died in OKC, the only reason being that they were there.  However, it wasn’t the first time in our history such a major act of civil disobedience took place and people died.  One of the first acts in this country, Shays’ Rebellion, planted the seeds of change from the Articles of Confederation to the current system we still use today.  Many of the reasons for that rebellion are statements you hear today… taxes, oppressive government, corruption.  Daniel Shays was sentenced to death too, but he escaped and a year later was pardoned like the rest of his followers were originally.

One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.  How true is that?  Maybe we should ask Ho Chi Minh, Yassir Arafat, Lenin, Robert E. Lee, George Washington…

Is the fate of the United States to end up like the Roman Empire?  A place where so long as the public has its bread and circuses, the government can do what it will?  It didn’t work for them, why should we be so arrogant to think we will fare any better?

Yes, tomorrow morning a handful of families will get what they perceive to be closure in their lives.  The United States will not.  Once again, the United States plays into the hands of the terrorist.

Disenchantment with government comes in many forms.  If you think that what the hobbyists do on this board constitutes an expression of disenchantment with government, all I can say is that the hobby hurts no one especially when the hobby is engaged on an Internet playing field.  When disenchantment with government starts hurting people then those who are disenchanted will wind up like the Romans.  Checked our energy prices lately? Our gas prices? The fact that hard working people can't get medical coverage? You see, my friends, the disenchanted ones are not limited to those who are the oppressed but can also include the oppressors.  Sorry to sound like Mario Savio or Danny Cohn-Bendit, but think about it.  People who are disenchanted with government use their power to the detriment of society as a whole.  As for us hobbyists, the only crime we commit is one of pleasure and, sometimes, self-indulgence. Regards to all, levendi

With each passing year our personal freedoms are being regulated to death.  The way our government is being ran is far removed
from what our founding forefathers intended.  The government was meant to protect not regulate the natural rights of Americans.  When you go to the link click on products and read the intro of the first book American Sovereign.  That will give you a better
idea about what the site is about.  My motto is LIVE FREE--Life Is Very Exciting---Freedom Requires Everyday Effort--This site is all about gaining back our personal pursuits of happiness free of government interventions.

Since we are such a varied group I was wondering if anyone has lost a family member/friend to violence? Your comment about the perceived "closure" is maybe just that, perceived. This will be a new cause for some one to take up, "poor" Mc Veigh.

Not to make light of this, but another group I belong to was arguing that their freedoms as hobbyists were being taken away! They were angry when someone said they couldn't what.....copy vintage patterns and send them round to each other!

All of us feel,in some way are freedoms are impinged. From the death penalty down to copyright laws. It's 0500 in Terre Haute, he's had his pints of chocolate mint ice cream, lets see how it goes.
