I have sat here tonight, the insomniac that I am and read thru many of the posts regarding our current world situation. I usually do not post into these threads for a couple of basic reasons.

Political and religious threads get very heated and ugly. It is hard enough to sit across a table from someone whom you can see and hear and have a heated debate about the world in its current state, but nearly impossible to get your point across when typing on a message board. In black and white you cannot hear the sarcasm, the pain, the worry or even the humor you wish to convey in certain words.

There are few who can...Nicole of Southern cal is one of them. I have found her posts refreshing and intelligent and she manages to get her point across without insulting anyone. Mathesar, Fortitude, Greywolf and many others have managed to keep the threads going in an interesting manner. There are many others but these people always seem to stick out in my site when reading these threads.

The one thing we all seem to forget though, when we are bashing a celebrity for their veiws or insulting another hobbiest/provider for their stance, is that we are able to do this just by virtue of the fact that we live here. My daughter learned in school this week that if you stand up and oppose Sadammin public you can be shot right then and there. And she was disgusted by the fact that he had his son in laws executed, after he had them divorced from his daughters, when they returned after the Gulf war. GW isn't my favorite person but I don't think he would take those extreme measures here.

We can post on this message board and share our views because we are Americans. I am pretty proud of that. Now whether I agree with the sentiments shared here or not, it's a damn fine thing that we are able to do it.

Someone I care for dearly has a son over there right now. He weeps at the pride he has for his son, and I think also for the fear of his safety. One of my best friends made me his contact if anything should happen to him there. The thought of getting that knock on my door makes me sick to no end.

Should we go to war? I have no fucking idea. I honestly wish I knew. Because to be honest, IMHO I don't think I ever have enough correct or honest information to make that assesment. But as an American I will damn sure fight for our rights to get up and have a debate and quarrel over discenting views on the subject.

Sorry for the long post so early in the morning. Insomnia makes me think waaaay too hard sometimes. I just have many wishes and hopes for everyone, expecially those I care about over seas. I just hope as we continue to debate these issues we remember those who have fought so hard and spilled their blood to give us this opportunity......
