So I just saw the new James Bond flick "Die Another Day" (not bad, by the way), and for some reason went on the internet just for fun to check out a few James Bond sites.  And a site points out that recent events involving terrorists seem like something out of an old James Bond plotline.

And it suddenly hits me that 9/11 was like a sick, tragically real version of a James Bond story.  An evil person with fanatically loyal followers hates everything about American democracy.  So he decides to undermine our democracy with an almost unbelievable plan to hijack a jetliner and ram it into the World Trade Center.  His evil scientist cohorts have figured out that the heat of the jet fuel will generate enough heat to melt the building's structural supports, and the entire building will collapse, killing thousands of innocent people.

The American public will then become so panic-stricken that they will allow the government to take away their rights and invade their privacy routinely, all in the name of protecting them against further terrorist attacks.  The goal will be achieved - American democracy will be seriously eroded.

The sad thing is that it is really happening.
