I love the hobby, but I'm no longer married. I can assure you if I had that kind of money with that kind of job, I wouldn't take the chance of losing my reputation and means of earning that kind of money by having an affair, especially with a fair at best looking woman (reminds me of Clinton).

The hobby is perfect if you keep your head about you and don't negotiate with rates (just pay what's posted), I mean it's a win-win.

Maybe he does not want sexual relations with a woman who has to pretend to like him.  Maybe he wants an ACTUAL relationship.  Also, whether he's paying someone or not, there will be major problems if he gets caught.  Paying for it certainly does not mean you are safe from all the possible risks (ie she calls him out, ends up being a jealous maniac, bribes him, etc....)

I'd rather be an unknown shmoe and be able to hobby than a celebrity or person in the public eye.

OK, so I am not a high profile person (I still wouldn't want my employer to find out that I hobby, I make very good money and wouldn't want to jeapordize that). But i'll say that I've never had any situation where I was concerned that a provider I've seen would expose me, even amongst the ones that I have friendly relationship with and personal phone, email. I'm not naive, I'm aware that it's an arranged friendship but you can't totally fake enjoying someone's company when it's not action related.

I guess I should thank my lucky stars (we do make our own luck though) that I haven't been with any lunatics.

We all have the potential to become a lunatic under the right circumstances and absolutely someone can fake a friendship or anything else!  Happens all the time even if the faker is just trying to be nice!  Take the money or other gains out of the scenario and the term "easy come easy go" will ring in your head.

There is a long history of US Military General (and Admiral) Officers having extra-marital affairs, and many of them have blown up in their faces and caused an early and embarrassing end to their careers.  The Army has a General in the process of being Court Martialed at Fort Bragg right now for indiscrete fooling around - mostly with female officers looking for a (pun intended) leg up.  I could name several retired USAF Generals whose dick cut their career short when it became public and could name a few more that simply never got caught.  One commanding officer of a large USAF Center permanently kept a room in the Visiting DV Quarters for his own use 'as needed for rest' despite the fact that his on-base quarters were several blocks closer to his office than the DV VOQ.  Walking into the Headquarters Building in those days was akin to having stumbled into a USAF Beauty Pagent with a disproportionate number of female staffers who all just happened to be good looking.  

Why?  Mostly it is the power that comes with those stars on their shoulders.  It attracts women like there is no tomorrow.  On a side note, I could not believe how much better looking I got the day I pinned on the rank of my last promotion and that certainly was not a star!  Also now there is a sub-culture in the military officer ranks; the Courtesan.  She is highly motivated to make rank and willing to do what it takes to get a Senior Officer to promote her career.  Comptetition is fierce and just being an excellent officer is no guarantee of promotion, but a senior officer can ensure she gets the right jobs and endorsements.  Many women have no problem getting on their back or knees for the General when all they can think of is an Eagle or Star of their own on their shoulder.

These guys usually have egos like no tomorrow, they just keep it quieter than George Patton did, but it is there.  They get a sense of entitlement to whatever they want because usually there is a lower ranking officer willing to get it for them.  

I know nothing really of David Patraeus.  For all I know he was a dedicated family man who simply fell in love with another woman.  But I doubt it.   Most likely if you tracked back into his career and found members of his commands that would talk about it, there would be a series of other women in his past.  And oh yeah, usually the wife knows all about it, maybe not in detail but they aren't stupid, just they are willing to let him do what he wants as long as she continues to get all that goes with 'Mrs General' and the six or seven figure salary he will probably pick up in the Defense Industry after he leaves the military.

Totally accidentally.  An accidental hallway collision sent us to the floor in a tangle of arms & legs, papers everywhere.....  sent things out of control.  Once the Genie was out of the bottle we could not put her back in there again.  It went against all common sense.   It took me 5 years to break it off...  and make it stick!  All the coworkers (and her husband) "knew" but we were never caught in the act.  We took crazy chances to be together.  In those long gone days...  before cell phones...  we used a letter drop.  We'd have been caught for sure with today's electronics.

I would think cheating on a wife knowing you can get caught is rather tame in comparison to some of the other things I have seen men do to get a nut. I know men who fk the baby sitter in the living room while the wife is sleeping upstairs...same with the nanny. No big shocker here IMO. Nothing surprises me about what men and women both do out of pure selfishness having no regard for anyone else, but I digress.

Why would he be that stupid? Likely does not care. I notice a very common trait among men of power, and that is they all seem to think they are invincible. Most guys who give providers their personal info. are not blue collar workers, but uber professionals or in the public eye...Politicians, CEOs, Athletes, etc. All of them are in a position where they feel no matter what they do to a certain extent, cannot be brought down. They seem to take more risks than the everyday married man who works 9-5.

Excellent post, very articulate. But times must have changed, because I was in the USAF from 81-85 and I've never seen a good looking woman in the AF. I was enlisted, but I assure you I never saluted a nice looking AF woman either. It sounds like you have more recent and reliable experiences so I'll take your word for it.

I did think this through. If you have his resources you get two rooms (adjoining) and have the provider go to the other room that's not in your name.

I did think this through completely. I travel all the time for business, and when I'm in my room no one knows what I'm doing. I've never had my privacy disturbed by anyone hotel staff or otherwise. So if a provider were to go to the other room and I went through the adjoining door no one would know. Perhaps you only use Motel 6 or Super 8 but they have hotels that there are adjoining doors that you don't have to go out in the hallway to go room to room. If someone is careful, they could take these measures easily. But as someone indicated earlier, these people like DP think they won't or can't get caught so they get careless.

I've found providers to be some of the most interesting people to have conversations with. Problem is, there's never enough time to talk with them when you've come for other things.
