But, yes, it will bother guys like me and many others. Here's the thing, dear. Most of the guys here are older, experienced mongers. We're computer-savvy and we know how to text. But we don't generally communicate in short-hand and we value clear communication and language skills (well, not all of us, but many).
So you'll not present yourself well, even though you may be well spoken in person. The result will be negative for you in two senses. First, you'll get flamed for it. If you don't care, fine. Second, guys who care about this may decide not to see you, so you could lose business.

Not only did dungy have no clue, he started acting like he was her manager, telling guys what they need to do to see her. Playing the pimp. If you want to communicate clearly and be understood, you will be hampered if your method of writing confuses or annoys your readers. One other thing to keep in mind. While the customer is not "always right" he does have the right to vote with his wallet, doesn't it make more sense to communicate in the manner that your potential clients prefer, rather than trying to force THEM to change? Changing the establishment is a worthy goal, but not necessarily when you are trying to make a living. Just something for you to think about.........

True, but after using a smart phone for so long you get accustomed to writing a certain way, and the phone also programs based off text lingo, its technology.
is that smart phones have predictive spelling programs so, after a short time, all you need do is to enter the first few letters of a word and the program will generate the entire word so you don't need to write it out.

Text lingo, besides you understood it so what's the big deal? U needed to jump on the band wagon to feel apart of something today?
...as for the text talk I don't care for it. Yes, I'm older but the issue is text talk doesn't always make sense. It is sometimes counter intuitive. Then add auto correct to it and you have gibberish. Text talk is for limited character communication. Here on TER you have all the characters you need. Please use them. Communication is most important on a message board. When there is no body language to read and/or no voice inflection to hear the written word becomes all important. You must always consider your audience when attempting to communicate. Especially when that audience is also the target group for your business. I do pay attention to how a provider communicates and I will pass on by if I start scratching my head wondering what the neck I just read.
I have read some of your posts that were easier to understand than this one.
As for those wondering why you post on the newbie board. When your new to TER that's a good place to ask TER questions. If you feel like responding to them that should be a sufficient reason.
Sometimes even when you don't use text talk there are a few guys that will be clueless. Just post where you want as long as it meets the guidelines of the board which are stated at the upper left of each board.

with Text Speak... It's not a "rule" but individuals trying to help you connect with potential clients. Not every client is a TER or even other boards members... but those with disposable income sufficient to play are often more mature gentlemen. If you can not take the good suggestion in the spirit in which it was offered, then perhaps the service industry in not a good fit for you.

I read a lot, everyday; not on TER, but many other sources, and because of that, if a writer makes it difficult for me to read and comprehend their thoughts, I just quickly move on. When the shoe is on the other foot, and I want to have my thoughts understood, I work to communicating as clearly as possible. I'm not always successful, but I put in a decent amount of effort. If you are just throwing your thoughts out there with little attempt in formulating them, and communicating them in readily understandable manner, then that's OK, however you may receive very little response, or even negative responses.

Different formats are acceptable in different context. It matters not whether you are using a smart phone or a keyboard. C U L8r.. may be acceptable for a quick response to a friend, but it is not the way to clearly communicate a thought to a broad audience. Young/old doesn't matter! I agree with you 100%. This TER board is a place I rarely frequent, and definitely not a place I will put effort into. There is a time and place for everything and writing as if I'm submitting a final to be graded I will not do. Your use of text lingo is only relevant if it matters to the men you're hoping to meet. If you receive feedback from them, then I would consider avoiding text lingo. Otherwise, if you're receiving this feedback only from people that are not even on your radar, then it shouldn't matter. Keep doing what you're doing.
