...unless you see a doctor.

This is a serious post. I'm in need of honest heolpful advice. I've already done some search on internet, but I figured with so many experts here, what could be better than TER general discussion board!  I think it's 'topical' especially since there's no medical board here. If you're going to poke fun and make jokes, I guess I can't stop you, just understand that in another life this could've happened to you; or it will in THIS one yet

After seeing a provider 3 days ago, I noticed the next day I was feeling itchy. I don't know if its crabs or lice or even fleas (or worse). I'm too embarassed to go to my doctor. I've NEVER had any kind of STD in over 8 years of hobbying and therefore I am very freaked out. What could it be (what's the most likely), is there a way to self-diagnose? Should I be able to "see" the little critters if they are crabs?  I don't have pets so I don't even know what fleas feel like. I've been taking hot baths twice a day for the last 2 days, scrubbing like crazy. I'm so angry and desperate I even contemplated buying anti-flea/lice shampoo in the pet section of Walgreens. What else could it be? How does one treat these and how long to they take before going away?

What I don't understand is that this providers (although young and unexperienced) was overly saftey-conscious, even wanted me to wear gloves to touch her inside  and so on.

I called the agency and told them what had happened and they told me they're very sorry and even admitted that they have had one other complaint about this girl's "hygiene" (but no details) and that this was not something in their control. We came to some agreement but that's not importnat here. I need help in how to treat this. Thanks in advance.

See your doctor.  It is not his job to judge, only to treat you.  If you are that self consious about it, there is almost certainly a sexual health clinic somewhere near you.  And do not see anyone else until you have seen a doctor.

I would strongly recommend seeing your doctor.  It may be something as simple as a yeast issue (yes guys can get that from girls).  The doctor will be able to diagnose it quickly before it becomes a far worse problem.

Do not be embarrassed, trust me, you doctor has seen it all :-)

It's a shame you waited until you were up against a holiday weekend, since your doctor will probably not be available until Monday.  If I were you, I'd go to a walk-in clinic, rather than wait.  Aside from the discomfort, with most infections time can be an important factor.  On the other hand, what you have is propbably not life-threatening.  But, you should avoid all contact with anyone beyond a light handshake until this is controlled.

This could be a lot of things.  Herpes is one of them.  But, self-diagnosisng in a case like this is a bad idea.  Get medical help now.

I agree, you need to get medical attention NOW!

As has been stated, your Doctor has seen it all. Even if your Doctor is a member of the family, do it anyway.

There is no reason  with Urgent Care Clinics, Hospital Emergency Rooms, Non-Profit HIV/AIDS Clinics, not to mention other Physicians that you can't get the help you need.

Finally,as has been said before your Doctor, and for that matter any other Health Care professional has seen it all, and will not judge. If you encounter that, go somewhere else, but take care of this NOW!!

relax,

let me give you a personal anectode. i experienced something almost EXACTLY like you describe. even with the same paranoid thoughts and desperate measures (others here might laugh at you for thinking of buying dog shampoo, but i don't! :)

i went to see my dermatologist, a wise old sage (i believe i've mentioned him once already on this board) and he told me the following: that it's NOT an STD since these take a long time to develop (orthodx rightly pointed this out in his reply). if there are no red rashes, encrustation or other visible signs (the real symptoms of an STD) it is more likely that it's something entirely BENIGN like a skin irritation from too much friction (you simply had too much "action" as we'd call it! LOL)

[*]IMPORTANT: but others are right. do the right thing and see you doctor and don't partake of any until you're sure it's benign.

now, tangentially speaking, what was the deal with this girl?  like you said (or implied) how could a girl who is so fanatically safey-conscious have transmitted anything to you?  are you sure you're not allergic to latex condoms or other safety measures she may have used?  i guess her other "hygiene" incident you mentioned could mean something, but then it could also mean someone else like you freaked out over relatively little. but since you evidently managed to score a discount with the agency. HEY! more power to you! you mind if i use that line?? LOL

(i'm only LOL'ing cuz i'm pretty sure it's nuttin' serious, but get it checked anyway :)

As others have said, you need to see a doctor.  Many clinics, such as the county clinic near Rosecrans, allow you use to an assumed name.

3 days ago isn't long enough to start feeling scabies, although crabs (pubic lice) would start bothering you right away if a few of them hopped on.

It's sad that you had to put the disclaimer that you didn't want any jokes or disbelief. It CAN and does happen. Scabies and lice (head or pubic) seem easy to get rid of but weeks later they can return as new eggs hatch. Both these things are a real PITA to extinguish and sometimes take many months and many different things to get rid of completely.

You need to visit a doctor to find out what's wrong. Just be honest, they are professionals and believe me, they've seen it all. Hopefully it is just a yeast infection, or an allergy to the spermicide she used or something like that.

Good luck,
MM

Your best bet if you don't want to tell your own doctor is the local Planned Parenthood (http://www.plannedparenthood.org/sti/).  They are usually not to expensive and very private.  Tell them what you think you have, they even have free screenings occaisionally for some common STDs.  Even if they can't help you onsite, they might be able to tell you where you could go to get help, and they will do a diagnosis.

Anyway, when I went it was based on the thought that I might have something.  Unfortunately, it wasn't crabs so I can't tell you anything about that.
