In the UK it's a term used for people in hooded sweaters.  Usually used for youths, hanging around the street and generally considered to be up to no-good. Many people feel intimidated by young men in hoodies.

It's a bit of a hot subject here at the moment and youngsters in such attire have even been banned from shopping malls and the like:

What predjudicial treatment do you receive from being in the FBI's profile of "most likely to commit a workplace massacre"?  Do people follow you around the workplace just to make sure you don't loose it and start flat blasting the place?  If you are interviewing for a job do you get turned down for some bogus reason while the real reason behind it is you are "most likely to commit a workplace massacre"?  Do people on the street duck down when they see you because you might bring your workplace mentality out on the street and start killing people there?

Lighten-up my ass!  Asinine is asinine any way you wipe it.

I didn't warrant being classed in with a demographic of numbskull, testosterone charged, drunken yahoos when I was between 16 & 25 years old but the insurance companies thought it fit too because of their statistics. When you get a specific demographic of people who walk around with their oversized pants hanging off their ass, listening to Gangsta-rap doing their best to fill up our correctional institutions is it any wonder employers are not overly eager to put them in charge of the cash register? Your pejorative personal attack vindicates why it’s no mystery why “logic” and “Limousine-liberal” will never be seen in the same sentence.

So, tell us how you suffered.  When the plant 3 states away had a shooting were you detained and questioned?

Were you denied loans?  

Were you denied housing in a neighborhood?

Were you denied a job, or do you just feel you'd be denied one?  If you were, that's just a small sample of what some minorities go through.  Discrimination on race shouldn't happen at all, but if it happened to you once I'd say you're still on the better side of the curve.

Do you feel these suspicious stares upon you, like you're suppoed to be a ticking bomb?

I work in an office that's 90 percent women.  I never thought that I was discriminated against.

Somebody with your alias shouldn't tell people to lighten up.  I wish you'd finally get enough of that shit and leave.

I guess the alias HadAboutEnoughOfThisSh*t isn't supposed to be an attack?  I guess screaming the cap letters "LIGHTEN UP" in that pushy manner is supposed to be a demure, discreet, friendly suggestion?  The term "limousine liberal" isn't a personal attack either?  Funny, I certainly felt offended by it.  

No, I'm not going to treat the racism on this branch like its really just a joke.  You're going to have to just find a good liberal who will lighten up on demand.    

So, what was the personal attack that hard2no and I made on your alias?  That we asked you reasonable rhetorical questions?  That he said, "Lighten up my ass."  Oh, that's deeply personal.  Was it that he said, "asinine is asinine?"   I admit I would have had trouble recovering my self esteem after that one.  From what I said to you, was it that I told you your alias didn't lighten the mood?  Or I said that I wish you'd finally get enough of that shit and leave?  Now that's a bruiser, but you came into town with  a "kick-me" sign alias, so I finally had to do it.  

I guess your reference to "people who walk around with their oversized pants hanging off their ass" wasn't racist?  "Hoodies" were not even an issue here.  

Meanwhile, you're complaining about a personal attack besmirching your precious alias.  Given the thin skin that shows, I could see why you feel so accutely the onerous discrimination in your life, when guys in the same position can't.

A suggestion: next time you want to lighten things up, make a joke, don't demand one.

I should say something.  Actually, I'm sort of glad, Mr. Had enough etc., that you reponded.  Not that I am endorsing what you say, but I do admire that you are giving voice to a side of the argument that many are too fearful to voice, and for that you should be commended.  To the others who also joined this debate, I also commend you.  Personally, I was afraid that what I said would be shrugged off and forgotten quickly.
I don't think anything we say here is going to solve the problems of racism in the world overnight, but I do know that if ever there is going to be a solution to it, it will come from people freely speaking their minds, which minds are hopefully open.

It's refreshing to meet someone who understands the meaning of debate and freedom of opinion (whether those opinions go along with yours or a fascist PC agenda or neither). It saddens me each time I witness in these forums the dog-piling and name calling when ever a less than universally accepted opinion is raised. The mere association with a forum and hobby as this pejoratively brands us by the mainstream. What arrogance to stand in self ennoblement against your compatriot when you both wear the same scarlet letter.
