Impact of Economy on the Hobby

Anyone starting to feel the pinch?  inflation is out of control with no immediate relief in site.   My 401k is now a 301k.   Stock and bonds are down.  Cash is whittling away at 7% inflation.

I've started to curtail my hobbying as the first discretionary expense to go.

To be honest, the only place where I've felt it thusfar is filling up my truck as it's now officially a double swiper.

But all my regulars have told me they are much much slower than last year. One told me her friend was freaking out because she hadn't seen a client in over 10 days. When I saw my ATF Tuesday she said she had only received 2 texts Mon/Tue. My only spending change in the hobby will be that I'll see my regulars more instead of new girls because I'd rather support them than go spelunking around.

It really depends on which head wins.

Seriously, I get your point and have thought the same.  I was too young to be in the hobby during the Carter and early Reagan years where, in my lifetime, the US economy was in a similar position.

On a macro basis, discretionary income is drying up.  Target stock dropped 25% yesterday, layoff's will follow.  Netflix announced layoff's yesterday, etc etc.  Nothing is protected so it makes sense the hobby will see some ripple effects.

Yes, agreed.
Being in the financial services industry, (on commissions), a lot more has been scaled back besides hobbying.
Everything, eating out, potential summer vacations, etc.....all affected.  401k's dropping into 301-201k's .....  529 college funds.....  Cost of filling the tank went from ~$40 to now over $80????  Can't blame it "just" on the economy coming out of COVID, folks.....

Thank goodness we paid off our mortgage just prior to COVID hitting back in early 2020.  Makes for easier sleepful nights.
To those who espouse, carrying a large mortgage and investing the rest.....  how are they sleeping now?  Debt is a stress that none of us need.

Amazing how there are some on the Boards that still give this current Administration a "pass".  Their thought process for almost everything has been "way off"........  I challenge even the most diehard Biden lovers to defend it.

Locally, some politicians are even looking to change the police departments uniforms because the current black ones look too "menacing".......  WTF?

I don't think inflation has really dug in hard yet. I do know recently about 30 days after Biden stopped some of the  major covid give away programs things changed fast. Our local Euros page had more than double the amount of providers.
P-411 activity increased also. Inflation may create more availability ?

Actually a long term fixed rate mortgage is something to want during a period of high inflation.  Eventually you'll get to pay a lot of it back with cheaper dollars.

The impact is everywhere (In everything that we do).  But that does not mean that we can't do it. It just means that we got to budget what we make even tighter then before &  schedule what we do differently. Don't ever just cut back or cut it out.

There have been periods of inflation in the past. Some of you are old enough to know the early 80s. I am not, but some of you are.

There have been been recessions. I am old enough to remember days past 9/11 and then the great recession of 2007-08.  Life moves on. Economy will recover. Prices will come down.

This hobby has survived 1000s of yrs.. You guys think we are doomed because of 8% inflation. C'mon now..

Life moves on.

Most of my Encounters are in calls with P411 providers.  In the last 6 months, Fuel has nearly doubled, Airline Fees have increased significantly, and Hotel Rooms have spiraled upward.  As their cost of travel increases, it only stands to reason that their fees will increase during a strong economy.  I think this will change WHEN the recession hits….Layoffs will affect everything listed above….people will stop traveling causing hotel rates to fall….people will still drive but not the way they are now.  The pandemic proved that….while everyone stayed at home Gas fell to $1.58 per gallon.  This confirmed my long term theory that if you bitch about Gas prices stop driving.  I believe that Providers will not lower their fees at first, but once  discretionary income a.k.a Hobby $$$, providers Will realistically adjust their fees.  Simple Economics!

$50K of what? $50K of 1MM is only 5% down. Not bad since S&P is almost 20% down.  $50K of $100K is 50%..

Any street smart monger would know that $50K in and of itself doesn't mean anything.

A savvy street smart (SSM) monger would also know to diversify. Real Estate is still appreciating, and will continue to appreciate due to very low inventory.  If you have real estate holdings, (and most street smart savvy mongers) do, you are really not doing all that bad. You really should use this opportunity to buy equities thru low cost mutual funds like Vanguard or Charles Schwab.  But again, most street smart smart savvy mongers don't need me to tell them that.. They already know.

Also, when you are flush you get your "dates" powerball tickets? Those $2 tickets with probability of winning the jackpot at 1/270 MM ? LOL.. Nothing speaks of class than powerball tickets.. LOL. Yeah.. very street smart and savvy indeed.

You are a fuckin' idiot. That's what you are..You are not even a good troll TBH w/ you.

if your $50K loss is only on paper, you haven't actually lost a DIME. There are only two prices that matter: the price on the day you buy and the day you sell. Another thing a SSM knows is, a big sell-off like this is a massive buying opportunity. I moved $100K from cash into stocks recently. And, yes, the market kept going down but in the nature of things it will go back up again and I'll benefit.
People who run around with their hair on fire at times like this are sheep waiting to be sheared by the truly savvy. All they do is lock in their losses while we lock in gains.

With the recent downturn in the Markets, I  have been doubling down on stocks with strong growth potential. Let just say I have a unique skillset not common among employees in an industry where there are not enough employees to meet the demand for the foreseeable future.

One thing I can tell everyone is that even with a recession, prices in this industry will not come down much. It will probably stay the same, until the next inflationary pressure cycle forces it to raise prices again.

China is in a perfect storm of bad long term trends.  They have a real estate bubble that is going to pop and it will be massive.  Their birthrate is collapsing, with two men for each woman.  They are killing their export economy with massive covid lockdowns so the rest of the world is re-repatriating manufacturing jobs.  China wages have shot up dramatically so they are less competitive and their per employee efficiency is lower that in the west. China could collapse quickly.
.
The impact will hit the US.  Supply chains out of China drying up will hit the west until production can be re-established here.  And there will be labor shortages.  Although that will be good for long term employment, as everyone will be begging for workers.
.
We have a few storms to weather, but there will be brighter days ahead.

Yep ! Right on !.  Those who feel the pinch are either the ones who sell at the wrong time, or the ones who have wrong asset allocation relative to their age.  Younger folks should have 90% stocks.  People who are close to retirement or retired should be more prudent and allocate their money wisely.

SSM knows it's all about long term outlook, DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging), and spreading the risks through mutual funds or ETFs..

Old enough to remember many recessions. The crash of 88 in October, recession in 1990, on and on.  Economics is still one of my favorite subjects.

Two big trends - stagflation I word we have not used since the late 70s and the Carter administration is very real. Supply chain issues along with shipping becoming a real problem will add up. Softening consumer demand (see Target) is the real issue.

The other is labor - lots of older folks just walking away. This is going to create a real productivity challenge. Which again drives costs.

Will prices come down? Maybe but I would expect to see some providers leave because frankly the work is not there.

Both the Hobbyist & Providers are feeling the pinch.  And when the Providers raise their prices well beyond reason.....That is not great, but in the same aspect. There are some Hobbyists that wants to treat us (The Providers) as if we are CRACKHEADS (Hobbyists try to pay so dirt cheap.

There are  very average women charging $800-1200/ hour. That’s nuts.

For example, in my case I've got "only" 61 reviews. But I've seen many more I didn't review or were delisted. I've also seen hundreds abroad (Costa Rica, Panama, Peru and Australia).
You know what they say about "never assume".......LOL.

I also had nearly 400 reviews that were on another website that closed down abruptly in 2015, and I've got reviews here under various alias', and I repeat at least once with 70% of the gals I see, some over 20 times over the years.  So what?  The tell is in the board posts.  Anyone who reads your posts knows you're a high-volume monger and you're not only a customer, but a friend to many providers, whether you are showing reviews for them or not, same with GaG, because of the depth of knowledge you both have about the business, but this guy ain't us, or anything close to it.  His perspective on the business is still in Newbie-land, naive, and with little real experience to talk about in detail, so rather than "assuming", I would call it logical deduction from what we DO know from his limited reviews and what he was written on the boards.  You know as well as I do that the guys here who are too serious and have no sense of fun or humor are not getting laid very often by hot women.  It's what they say here and how they say it that gives away their inexperience.

I am very fascinated by AND/OR clause when it comes to "negative, trouble making, rude, and/or slanderous".

I am totally going with AND.  You see OR can be very tricky without parenthesis - whether it is rude or slanderous or if all the adjectives preceding rude are to be considered. LOL

…are of Bay Area kgirls and the hit has been hard. The 10-15% inflation on this market has had me dreaming 50% less.

I’m thinking that this biz will have the same problems as restaurants, in that the dreams will raise their prices, only to have less people who can afford dinner out. There are some dreams here that have gone from $$20 to over $$$ in a year and, well, I’m out at that mark. And I know I’m not sleeping alone here. So how much more can it go up before it’ll have to come back down to regain lost diners?

Forgive me if I missed anything on this above, but I did not read as it looked like it was getting off topic.

outside relationships with over a dozen providers.  When you are the real life boyfriend, you don't pay.  Ask the other guys who have experienced the same thing.  Some here eventually got married.  I haven't found the right one for that yet.  I spent this past weekend with a civvie girl that i met at the gym who is 25 years younger than me, 5-4 and 115#, and DDG, of course.  My close Monger friends get to see the photos of my various provider girlfriends from time to time.  You don't.  I've been posting about my provider girlfriends here for years.  Do a search next time before you post and you won't look so stupid posting speculative shit like this.  Your post is what they call a double-down on village idiot.  When  you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.  Who knows, maybe you have paid one of my provider-girl friends for sex that I'm getting for free?  There is nothing sad at all about my life.  I love my life.  It's expensive, but worth it.

I believe in Ray Lucia's buckets of money theory: pensions, social security, equities within or out of a tax sheltered retirement vehicle, real estate (currently have a condo for sale that I'm going to triple my investment on), gold, etc. Inflation is a problem, but it's cyclical. Will the Fed overdo it, to the tightening side...of course they will, they're always a few moves behind, raising rates, or cutting them.

But it wasn't because of the economy. It's because the site isn't as cool as it used to be.

Not only that, but the 'old' friends I had split also. Both guys and gals.

The only reason I'm saying this now is because I  was talking with my brother Inicky46 earlier and said I'd do this.

It sure as shit ain't like it was in the good ol' fucking days.

It's boring as fuck. I used to look forward to coming home, walk my dogs and feed them, then spend fucking stupid hours on here with a bunch of other mongers and ladies cool enough to hang with us.

For lack of a better term it was 'Camelot'. Everyone was happy. Or as long as I knew.

Now it's the 'View' and it's fucking sad.

I'm just glad I don't pay to be here.

I may have experiences, reviews, that'd 'give' me a few days VIP, but why the fuck would I do that? Why would I feed a machine that doesn't dig the deal in the first place? They don't give a fuck about me or my friends and the fact the place exists entirely because of.

If it wasn't for us this wouldn't exist. And before this gets deleted by admin I made a copy and will send it to whomever I fucking please, wiseass!!!
