We don't get much snow in the places I've lived for the past 23 years, and my last "driving in Buffalo snow" was a wild ride, but I do remember the New Years Eve ride down the Thruway at about 65mph in a blizzard, because I was late to pick up my date.

Don't worry too much Ciara, after the first couple snows of the season, they remember how to drive again.

Ok, so it's no big surprise. It is Buffalo afterall..

So last night, coming home from doing some Christmas shopping ,the traffic on Niagara Falls BLVD was at a standstill.. Afterall, Buffalo was getting a WHOLE 3 inches of snow tonight .. For Christ sake ! People in their 4 wheel drive suv's. Their 4 wheel drive 30,40,50,60,000 dollar vehicles. And here they are. .White-knuckled drivers- Jesus... WHAT THE  HELL. Talk about ROAD RAGE ! They were going 20 down a 50MPH road -

So
When A client left this morning, he said..GEEZ.. Look at it out there..it's snowing again ! How does anyone drive in this stuff..

Now mind you he is a lifelong resident of Buffalo NY. I look across the street as he walks to his good 40,000 4 wheel drive truck.. Just complained two weeks ago when he was here about how he just spent a  grand on new tires-

Another white knuckled Driver.. JESUS

Do you men drive like this ?

If so, STAY OFF MY ROADS for heavens sake LOL

I'm from CA and FL so not much snow experience.  I had a rental.  I'd heard it was going to be snowing so rented a 4WD but got a Ford Focus.  (We're out of cars ... sorry).

Headed back to my hotel in a full on blizzard.  Not going too fast, but not really slow either.  My little front wheel drive Focus got me past all kinds of road hazzards including a couple of Hummers stranded front to back in a ditch.  WIsh I'd had my camera for that one ...

Tipped the rental guy when I got back to fly out.  (the only time I've ever done this).

Growing up in Minnesota I see it every year. It just takes a couple weeks of snow for everyone to remember "winter driving" as opposed to "summer driving". Then there is always those that never learned nor care to learn "winter driving".

two seasons in Buffalo; winter & the 4th of July"

and a 40K AWD vehicle is not necessary.  FWD is probably enough, if studded snow tires are used, regardless of the depth of snow.  And the laws of physics are not repealed for someone just because he can afford an Escalade.  The other main lesson is that one can't push very much snow, regardless of the traction of the vehicle.

Thoughtfull > I so love that picture.. and I never heard that before.. BUT , it is so very true LOL

...as a kid in the 70s watching news footage of what looked like giant snow plows clearing the streets of Buffalo. The snow would be piled so high on either side that the street looked like a snow canyon.

A buddy of mine got yelled at for standing on someone's car.  He thought it was just a snow pile.

I miss those days...NOT!!!!!!

I lived in Lansing MI in 1967. 28" in 24 hrs.

I lived in the Buffalo area in 1977. The Blizzard that shut down Buffalo.

I moved to Chicago just in time for the 1978 Blizzard.

What's the big deal about 3" of snow? All it takes is practice, patience and a gentle touch ... just like dealing with a lady.

Oh I could just cry thinking about all that snow. I miss my home so much. I just moved here to VA in July from Vt. A little town up on the NY/VT/Qbc border. I love the snow, the freezing winters and all the cozieness that goes with it. Today I had to turn on my ac. That sucks.

There was about two inches of snow on the ground. We were driving down an empty street at night going all but 25 mph. His rear-wheel drive car lost traction and began to slide. Mind you, it wasn't a big slide. All he had to do was take his foot off the accelerator and steer back on course. It took me a few seconds to realize that he had froze and grabbed the wheel white knuckled. He had pressed the brakes and let the car skid sideways to a total stop. I realized he couldn't handle the least driving emergency.

The snow doesn't bother me driving. When all the 4-wheel-drivers these days complain, I wish they'd remember what it was like to drive one of those 70's model hunks of shit with the rear wheel drive, crap engines and transmissions. Now, those were lessons in defensive snow driving.

Check back in February.  A 12 inch storm will barely rate a mention on page 8.
