After I got through banning a dozen or so posters, I would encourage multiple train wrecks and little if no moderation.

I would also allow 3 aliases per thread, per poster. Sorry to say if you are a cheapo and don't have VIP you can't play.

There would also be an alias party every Saturday. No real fake names allowed.
Just to think what I could come up with if I put any real thought into this, lol.

If you had mod God powers for a day on TER what changes would you make?

I would make all IP addresses visible and sit back with a big bucket of popcorn.

I would SO have a "Show New Replies" button!  Every other forum in N. America has such a button, I have no idea why we don't!

I would much rather have that than some silly icon saying "You have 47 new messages" all of which are notifications of replies to my posts and none of which has a hyperlink to make my life easy....

I'd create the denial reason that I keep asking for that reads something like "You are too stupid to post; please go away".  I would also give mods the ability to ban users that routinely create problems.  I would limit the number of aliases a user could have to say...25.  I'd allow providers to advertise 2x per week, but allow guys to bitch about ladies when they advertise.

Oh, and theme days.  Lots of theme days.

Thank you.The Gods must have heard me !

I love your ideas hahahah

25 aliases???  How many personalities may a person have?  Shee-at...get a psychiatrist!

I've got almost 10 times that many, and so do I.  Me too.  Yeah, I do too.

user VOTING buttons:
 'YEA!' and BOO!'   by each comment, one 'push' per user; 'many 'BOO' and user's comment get's erased (like youtube) lot's of 'YEA' and the comment turns gold
 'FLIP'  next to EACH Alias; one 'push' per user; enough pushes, it gets flipped

They would defeat some of the purposes of aliases in allowing some sensitive information to be shared. Aliases have their place. The other button may make most of my posts to go away. What fun is that?

There are buttons similar in place other places.

Think BP flagging and YouTube's thumbs up/thumbs down. It take a high number of clicks to trigger the actions. Controversial, derogatory or inflamitory posts at not tripped by 4 or 5 clicks.

Each reader can click only once. CL tracked this  user IP. This can be set to an appropriate number to facilitate the ideal, while giving the readers (with the most important opinion) the ability to self regulate the board.

That is what TER needs, I believe. The current mod system doesn't end up reflecting the majority of the POTENTIAL posters' best interests.

Ruffling a few feathers is normal, but the community should decide when someone has gone too far, not the mods with their PERSONAL take.

(NO PERSONAL OFFENSE TO THE MODS HERE)

There was a day when...

One example is... that if you created a derogatory alias of another's handle for the purpose to harrang someone e.g. "Maddratt" for Mattradd or "HalfWitt" for HalfHour, you whould be told to knock it off or be banned.

That is not about being too thin skinned, it is about maintaining a modecum of etiquette and respect for others without which, robust and beneficial social intercourse is brought down to plain old fucking with someone.

True old timers have seen the sad decline of contributions which has come, in part, from allowing assholes, bullies and trolls to rule. The community need to self rule in these matters to allow a vibrant participatory feel where LOTS of ladies and gents post. Not just the big mouths.

I had a chance to meet a few ladies in my area at a recent M&G, one of whom I had been wanting to meet for a long time based partially on her active participation on the Boards here. (I found that was reciprocal, but who knows why?!)

We talked about the decline of the boards and I asked her why she was no longer posting. In fact, I thought maybe she had retired. She explained that she had grown weary of the all the "bullshit" that she experienced and the lack of appreciation show by what I call ASSCLOWNS.

That's been true of many other ladies, and men, who just quitely stop participating, or never start.

Buttons, buttons...

:)

The old timer with no credibility in the eyes of some due to "no reviews"

I was mostly joking on my commit on the pull button. I actually think if the nay bar was set high enough it would be worth while second way of moderating the site. I actually like the like dislike button idea. I was trying to be stupid.

My main worry is with the alias flip button. I really think aliases have there place and a flip button would defeat that purpose.  This is because some would vote to flip every alias and others would use it as a way to embarrassed those using  alias for one of their intended purpose of allowing people to share things that are to embarrassing to post under their handle.

a contest every month, and it would be:

The ladies would post their sexiest and most explicit real picture (one entry per lady per month), for TER members to vote on. Any person who votes, will have to donate 2 days of VIP access, and that will be the prize.

At the end of the week the votes would be tallied, and the lady whom gets the most votes will be the winner, and receive the prize.

She can also put those VIP days for auction, for TER members to bid on, and she would receive the cash value of the winning bid, and a 1-hr or more date with the person who won the bid.

Just and idea.....

Each post has a "too stupid to Post" button. Each person with VIP can vote once a month on each board by clicking that button. In order for that vote to count they must post at leased one post that month. The person whose post got the most votes gets banned from posting on that board and is moderated on all others boards for the next month until we get a new "winner" to replace them in the club.

With luck it may slow down the number of really stupid posts down a bit. At the very least it would give a sense of justice when I read one of those posts and give it its due. It would be fun even if I win from time to time.

I mean after all despite all my stupid posts, I still have an aliased fan club who reads each of my posts and decides share with me their thoughts. It must be love. Your the greatest. Take care. ;)

a few hundred or thousand feet of where you live based on your IP address?

I'm sure donut-men aren't going to love utilizing that info when they make their case one day, unless you meant that only mods can see everyone's IP addresses?

Even so, Considering TER recruits new mods even from the newbie board and no mods are compensated (strictly voluntary, afaik), I wouldn't place complete trust and hand over identifiable and trackable personal info, like IP addresses, even to the mods.

LE has already 'infiltrated' TER. Who knows what they meant by 'infiltrated'... I'd post a link to the actual police statement in my area, but something tells me this post will be rejected if it contains local links.

Given my awesome new powers, coupled with my practices of community service and need for world domination, I would create a new television series called, "The Real Hobbyists of TER".

I'd cast the following types of characters for starters:

    * The One & Done Number-Runner-Upper
    * Advertisement validator
    * Newbie
    * Regional board pariah/codger
    * MFM-phobe that thinks one wrong turn will make the session into an MMF and completely
       change his orientation forever
    * Know-it-all
    * Moderator
    * Self-absorbed bon vivant (me!)

I'd use the board for all creative material and story lines.  Board personalities would not actually play themselves (that would be handled by actors and to maintain gents privacy), but would have paid positions and work directly with the actors as creative consultants and be featured in the credits.

Ladies would have the option of playing themselves in cameo appearances or working with actresses as creative consultants.

Story lines would run the gamut of serious (security, inside the business, health-related, emotions) to the silly.  In fact, the wacky shenanigans could be endless.  Some working story lines:  one hobbyist spikes another hobbyists condoms with pepper oil; a "Crying Game" episode; and, the whole cast gets bed ridden with a really bad case of ED.  Hilarious!

This would drive huge amounts of traffic to TER, make whatever ladies were featured at least B-list celebrities, and become the most popular Bravo TV series ever.  Trade rags would go absolutely bonkers over the humor, content, and edgy nature of the show.  Merchandising alone (T-shirts, mouse pads, pubic appearances, etc.) would make me a gazillionaire!

Of course, the show would eventually draw the ire of more conservative aspects of our society, resulting in the eventual lynching, burning-at-the-stake, and running-out-of-town of all those involved.  Perhaps, I should consider it as an HBO show or a radio program on Sirius after Howard Stern (he would be a good lead in).

Still developing...

Your kilty pleasure,

theKilt

A feature that would allow links and info on BP and other site advertisers that do not yet have at least 2-3 reviews posted (or just one if by a confirmed hobbyist) - allow links to the ad sites, let VIP users post and share research notes, allow searches by telephone number in ad, link those providers who use a common telephone number, and flag those determined to be ROBs.

I'd also add a confirmed hobbyist feature - sorta like the white list, and when showing reviews, show the number by confirmed hobbyist with more than X reviews
