 I just stopped answering back. I hate when people want to tell me how much I should charge for my time. Go to the supermarket and say hmmm, nope I don't want to pay x amount, I'll give you this instead. Tell your landlord that the rent is too high and that he should consider lowering it.  
   
 What's with the haggling, the prices are what they are and what's this whole Friday business? So I should give you a discount because to some Fridays are the happiest day of the week :O

With the "that's not fair....blah blah" I would have blocked the child. There is no reasoning with someone like that. The last thing you need to do is keep trying to justify your business methods.  

This was part of his field training so your thread is invaluable as I can see exactly how he mishandled his haggling attempt. I will give him an A for his efforts but a D for his approach and F for his result so clearly I have some work to do with him.

I highly dislike when they do that. Especially if they are a business owner themselves because then they should understand first hand how it feels to imply that you're product or service is worth less than your rate.  No one wants to be cheaper than they're really worth and I find it very disrespectful that he pushed so hard for a discount. It's simple. If the prices are too high find someone else or save up your money. I would block him the second he tried to haggle me after I've already said no. You're absolutely right about other products and services and our inability to haggle down a price at a restaurant or grocery store, or mortgage payments. I use that example all the time. He should be happy that he doesn't have to pay taxes on top of that like he would anywhere else.  

Tell him you are sorry for anything. I know it's just a figure of speech, but he hears agreement with him. Just say "No". Don't explain. Don't apologize. You're trying to be nice, but he sees it as a weakness. That my .02

Whether or not you just came back from vacation, you should get fair market share, for your wonderful personality and your lovely derriere.  Now if you can leverage that with the two hour minimum so you don't have to see as many guys so be it.  However, make sure that they have a history of compensating women that much and look for their reviews with providers that are on your tier or higher.

Unfortunately, these jerks have a saying, "embarrass yourself" that they think makes them win at negotiation. It sucks, but it's true.  
 

Sure honey, I will hold back and give you a bargain experience...funny that these hobbiests also tend to be the ones that lay out the step by step menu of wht they want even though they know that it is not cool at all and wnat the most for the least.  I suppose we all like a deal, but goodness, not this one.  It is so not sexy to go into meeting someone who already lets you know that they devalue your time.
