TER General Board

It is for a singular MISUSE reason you and many others dislike aliases.

After reading all the boards it's obvious you can get an aliase but how to other posters know you are using one? I've not tried to use one as I don't see the need (at least yet) but just curious?

That means I'm NOT using an alias. If you see NO envelope, they're indeed using an alias.

Whenever one posts under an alias the PM "envelope" icon does not show next to their name when you click on the respective post.

Here are NINE very acceptable reasons for the use of an alias.

1. Use of topical humor

2. The creation of a character(literary license) to be used in an informative, fun, innocuously sarcastic, philanthropic, as well as topical way.

3. Anonymity for when regional or associational sensitivities may be of concern.

4. Innocuous playing of "devils advocate" in a discussion or debate where one wishes to not be further/future aligned with one faction or the other.

5. Avoidance of suffering political fallout for a comment that may have been wrongly construed in a possibly volatile discussion.

6. aliases may be used for posting investigative reports, meet & greet announcements, helpful advice, or other similar types of useful information where the use of a user-name could prove problematic.

7. To 'classify' the content of the posts.

8. Concerns in revealing your review history.

9. Ability to contribute where you would otherwise feel embarrassed to speak candidly.

Where did these "acceptable" reasons come from? Your ideas?  I fully disagree on #3, 4 , 5, 8 and 9.  If you have something constructive or destructive to say,  don't be a chicken-s***!!  Those reasons are why most of us hate the use of an alias. If you cannot stand the heat, then do not post!

Another reason to use an alias is to hide your name from the front if you are needing to be under the radar up front, BUT, sign the post at the bottom as I am doing.  JimmyPW

as long as a person is not using a Aliase to be a total jerk who cares, if they wanna use it so be it. We are all semi-anonymous just being online anyway regardless of where it is we post, this site or any other. When did posting on a board become a macho contest

The way I see it the term alias AS USED on this board is any name other than the one on your TER birth certificate.
For the purpose of this board The name on your TER birth certificate is your "real name" and any other name you use is an alias
As for me, I suppose, technically,  you could say I  have numerous aliases, however since the Followme family is so large I allow my cousins and other family menbers to sign on using my TER log in name then go to their names such as
SantaFollowmeClaus
FatherFollowme
EasterFollowmeBunny
PopeFollowmeLXIX
DrFollowmeOBGYN
RabbiFollowme
Followmeopolis
FollowmeESQ
ChefFollowme
OldFollowmePhilosopher
DeepFollowmeKisser
to name just a few of my family (there are many others )
So technically these are aliases , however in my case they are all real  members of the followme family.
To the best of my knowledge they do behave themselves.

I hope this clears it all up

Thank you

some very small percentage of people abuse the use of aliases and ruin it for everyone else (or try to)--its called immaturity.

but i like paris' idea better!!! xo

and each has a special place on TER and for my heart. I have followed you all over TER to read your posts and love your flirtatious personalities. Each has been fair and adds much  everywhere they travel.

The Followme family have always been a well respected and positive addition to these boards.

Although I have never met any of them, I count them as "good people".

Just my opinion...

Well, you know what, JimmyPW? Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. I disagree with your comments, so I guess that makes *you* chickens**t. Can it with the attacks just because you don't agree.

Several of the reasons I gave came from the mouths/keyboards of TER moderators, and I have chosen to save them to a hard-drive file for reasons of incessantly redundant anti-alias gripes on these boards which invariably denote the "singular" misuse of the alias feature.
