A couple of posts up you'll find a provider who has a blanket statement on her website that she won't see black hobbyists. It does suck but so does most of life. And as I have said on this board many times, absolutely 100% the provider's business who she sees. From my perspective, better to know right up front. BTW, you're probably better off in New York or LA if this is an issue. On this issue (please hold the flamethrowers) you're less likely to find a problem in NY, LA or LV than in red states.
I am fairly new to the hobby and was recently told by a white provider that she does not see African-American men. I said fine and thanked her for her honesty. I was not upset. Everyone has the right to see who they want. When I started hobbying I was told by white and black hobbyists to expect this sort of exclusion. (Especially from agency and Florida providers) "It doesn't matter how polite, successful or handsome you are. They (white providers) won't see you," is what one white hobbyist told me. "The only choice for black men is to see porn stars," another white hobbyist told me. Any feedback from experienced hobbyists and providers would be appreciated.
That may be the routine in certain locations, but on a grand scale, I think it's not normal. Many of my appointments have been set up via email, and never has race come up, nor do I think it's apparent from anything I say. I'm white, but I don't think it would've mattered much. I'm also a black hobbyist new to Phoenix where I experience the same thing. My first question to anyone I want to see is, "do you see black males"? If the answer is yes, then I proceed from there. Believe it or not some of them are here on TER so you have to do your homework like everyone here tell us to do. I post the question on my local board for help and feedback from the others who could help me and some providers did response. Good luck!
From you're perspective race does not come up. But for a gut check here it is a real issue. I too am white, but have several friends in the hobby who are not, have participated in several discussion on the topic as well.
One of the main issues, is that a provider does not post on her website "no blacks". I do not blame them for that, since it would be sort of blatantly out there. But I know guys that have gotten as far as the door at the incall and had a problem. This really sucks big time.
So the gentleman posting about asking up front "do you see black men" seems to be the concensus of those I know to avoid these problems. I do not like it, and does not seem fair, that they should have to jump through different hoops, but this seems to be the best route to take.
Maybe phunhog has the reason for me being naive. Obviously, I'm not going to feel the discrimination against blacks, not being one. If you're correct (and that would make me wrong), that's f'ed up. i agree that anyone can choose who to see or not, deception is not the way to go.

Moment1 mentioned Florida for example. I assure you that there are plenty of happy black gents in the hobbying community surrounding Miami. (and Moment1's post on the other boards (Newbie, Florida) had replies attesting to this fact)
On the other side there will be many cases of such biased selection occuring in L.A..
Bottomline, it does indeed suck. However the hobby in and of itself has all sorts of bias that impact selection. Guys select their providers on several sets of criteria that may not be directly related to sexual performance, e.g. heavy/thin, big boobs/small boobs, fake/real, hair color, beauty, perceived intellect, nationality, race, etc.,etc.
Granted that the above is not the same as race discrimination but this activty has at its core selection based upon who we want to see, be it from the client or providers POV. In such an environment it is not always easy to distinguish personal preference from discrimination.
