Given that:

- so many people today live an increasingly busy  and fast-paced life, thereby lacking the time to develop and sustain long-term relationships  

- such a large percentage of people don't particularly enjoy their college major or profession, thereby lacking the motivation to form lasting bonds with people at their schools or workplaces

- people so often segregate themselves off from others based on niche interests, that often have nothing to do with their work.  

Is it still possible to strike up a lasting romance with a special person in a society like this?  Or is hobbying fast becoming the new dating?
