When I upgraded my iPhone, i kept the old one and got a Trac-Fone sim card for it.   Now it is my hobby phone.

Do you (or did you) have a top-of-the-line phone for that purpose, or just the cheapest thing you could find, the most basic models?

I have an El Cheapo. It doesn't even have a really recognizable brand name, its features are limited, to recharge it monthly I pay one of the lowest rates available for any phone, etc.

[I'm only posting this topic to stimulate a bit of conversation, I am not seeking advice or pointers or tips about which phone I should or could use. I'm sticking with my burner phone, I was just curious as to what other fellows have to say about the ones they've used.]

Then I switched to a burner app on my smartphone.

Also use a burner app (Hushed) and also have a separate flip-phone with a refillable service (Total Wireless).

... It's already on my Android phone yet completely separate from my cell number.

I always use a burner.  They are cheap and very secure.
I bought the low end flip at Target for $100.  A year of service is $100.
It is only used for the hobby and never for anything else.
I turn it off and hide it when not making arrangements, which is only once a week or every other week.

Security to me is absolutely key.  Using your regular phone, even with some so called secure app it too much of a risk for being hacked.  Or being geo-located.

With the demise of 3G networks, I had to buy a new burner phone.  The guy at Target swapped the SIM, so I kept the same phone number and I was back in operation.   Again, all cash, no credit card.  No ability to track any of this.   Not registered with TracFone either.

Your phone number is your key to opening all the doors.  Your call and text history is stored to identify you when making appointments.

I also have a non traceable email address on Yahoo and gmail,  for the occasion it is necessary.   I use a VPN to log in to check emails.
