Basically anyone under a federal grant studying prostitution jeopardizes their standing if they don't tow the party line that prostitution is fundamentally oppressive and inexorably linked with human trafficking.
Whoever has the gold, gets to make the rules.
I understood most of the arguements in the article except one.
Why does a group working to stop human trafficking need to distribute condoms? I;m sure there's a good reason but I can't think of it.
Just as needle exchange programs help drug addicts in the same way.
When there is trust built up between the two groups, then discussions of how to escape from their situations becomes easier to do.
Research (any sort) can be manipulated by the need of the researcher to fund his or her work. That is, if there is a potential for research results to be used to support political agenda, it is highly likely that researchers (and in fact the grant reviewer) will be "instructed" as to the means to do the study (to build in bias while appearing objective) and the anticipated study results....! There are OH.... SOOOOOOO many examples of this I could scream....
In this case, all one has to do is visit some of the very high profile ladies on TER. I know one, who is highly educated, her family is incredibly wealthy and she does whatever she wishes.... I sometimes think that she is a provider simply to get sex from prequalified men who are self selecting and wish to be with beautiful women (and she is!). Were she to "be under the support" of her family, well, her lifestyle would be questioned... and she does not wish the hassle....
Before anyone jumps on me, yes, I know for many, while they like providing for a living... they are counting the days that they can go to a normal 9-5 job... but for some - that is not the story.... They ran from the 9-5 to the hobby....

We are in the midst of the most intellectually-opressive administration ever. They quash all ideas and thoughts that run counter to their own. This alone astounds me when I think how many hobbyists here support the current leadership. I realize that no one should be a one-issue voter, but let's face it, these guys are, for the most part, anti-democratic and I won't support anybody who gives off even a hint that our Constitutional rights have limits or an expiration date.
I know... take this to the P&R board...

scientist who disagrees with your lame schemes to make money off of a poorly supported theory. As to Manmade global climate warming... I suppose that the warming on Mars and Pluto that has been documented by the Goddard Space Center is Manmade as well..... just as you invented the internet....

Here's an agency that is using money to subordinate scientific research to a pre-determined conclusion.
Now it strikes me that there is a colorful five letter Anglo-Saxton word for a person who would do this.
Does anyone want to venture a guess as to what it is?
