If I was travelling I'd probably feel different since I have a valid excuse for staying in a hotel.
At home, I don't want the paper trail. Also, I need to date around noon from early afternoon so I have to deal with early-checkin issues. Typically I go with incalls but if traveling I will use outcall. Depending on if I have transportation or if I have other co-workers staying in the same hotel.
Usually I prefer an incall at the gal's place, but some gals I know can't handle that so I get a hotel.
Other times I'll host a gal at my home, which is my favorite, especially if it is an overnight.
While traveling though I prefer an outcall to my hotel.

Truth be told, the only times I have really been asked for outcalls is when I was first starting out and doing shorter dates. Generally business men in town are staying in the downtown areas which I always hated, so I would simply refer them to several friends who were in that area and could get to them easier.
From a provider's perspective, a few major downsides to outcalls:
1. They take twice as long to accomplish for the same rate of pay. A one hour outcall even if within 10 min. will still take nearly 2 hours of our time to pull off
2. Parking, paid parking or valet
3. Having to search for the damn room and actually be dressed a certain way the entire time
4. Having to leave with that freshly fked look or take up 20 min. of time fixing yourself just to drive home
5. Getting your car from valet or parking
6. Walking out alone with a wad of cash
7. Having to lug tons of shit to the room (I cook often for my dates and this is simply not easy with outcalls).
8. Not knowing what a guy has in his room... guns, cameras or another person possibly

I use to do outcalls only. Now I do mainly incalls.
Much easier for me to use the time I would have drove to him to putz around. No traffic, no using gas.... the list goes on.
I still do outcalls, but not as much. Guys seem to love incalls far more.

When I'm home, my living situation doesn't lend itself to having a provider come to my house, and I don't want to have to rent a hotel room just for a date, (though I have occasionally done that for ladies who only did outcalls, and who I really wanted to see). I have also been no showed after renting a room just for a date.
When travelling, I already have a hotel room, but I may or may not have transportation to drive to an incall, and may not know the lay of the land, traffic patterns, best routes, bad locations to avoid, etc.
As to the OP and the "super sleek hotel room with a "mod con" bathroom...", meh, I could care less. Clean room, comfortable bed, decent location is what I want.

something about a hotel is sexy & makes you ready to let loose!
BUT I'm ready to start touring soon & can see how I will prefer incall in a strange city with no car.
So hotel's seem to win out either way. 
my preference to spend an evening out, Dinner and drinks, etc... more like leaving the world behind and doing something more "immersive".
Seems like she's a bit more comfortable. I'd do an outcall if I had a hotel possibly but prefer I calls
I've found providers seem to be more relaxed when they're on their turf. And since I work for myself a midday appointment either home or on the road, breaks up the day nicely.
at my home... the main reason is I live in a gated community which requires ID to obtain a pass to get to my house. This way, I know who is coming and am assured there is no one with them. I have had some decline, so I pick them up "just outside the gate" and bring them to my house...

In my hometown I prefer incall, when I'm out of town I prefer outcall
For me nothing beats the comfort of my own bed. And no SO to get in the way of things so I can do that.
LOL... you'll rethink that when one makes threats to blow your shit up or post your address on a leaks site. Just sayin.
It really depends on the provider and the situation. Even if I am on the road. I will do either incall or outcall. For example, In Manila, I do outcall to my hotel ONLY. However, In Sydney, I mixed it up. A few incalls and one outcall. In my home town, I have even hosted at my house for providers that I know very well.
