So are you young or old at heart?

According to this article young people are much more likely to see the young woman's image first and older people are more likely to see the image of the old woman first. I have no idea if the study has any merit to it, but at almost 60 what I saw at first glance was an image of a young woman and only after looking really hard did I see the image of the old woman. Maybe after all these years on TER, I have an aversion to OTHFB's and my mind tries to tune them out. lol

How about the rest of you, which image do you see first?

The giant white "blob" rising from the black straw with an open mouth.  Then I noticed it was trying to swallow the head of a young women who was looking away and didn't see it coming.  A scene right out of a black and white 50's horror movie!!!

did I not only see the young girl first, I never even saw the old bag at all.  That said, I don't even give half a shit about the young girl since she was covered with old clothes.  With apologies to my esteemed colleague, Senator Blutarsky, this is more what I had in mind.

but then, I also believe those Korean AAMP gals when they tell me that they are only 25.

The real question is, which one would you book if only the old broad offered GFE at the same rate?

The more I looked, I saw the young girl looking away. I much prefer when they look my way.

to keep things hot in your sauna.  Who needs stones heated by gas or electricity when you have her?

When my first wife caught me seeing escorts, she made me see a shrink.

The first thing the shrink did is show me a bunch of those "ink-blot" pictures, and ask me what they are.

I looked at the first and told him:   "That's a man and a woman fucking."

Hmm, said the doctor, and what does the second ink-blot look like?

I said: "That's a man having sex with a woman and her daughter.."

Now the doc had a scary look on his face before he showed me the third picture.  What does this say to you asked the doctor?

I said that was a man having sex with a  woman, her daughter, and the family dog.

At this the doctor exploded at me and said:  "mrfisher, (not my real name, of course), I think you have a very serious problem."

I then retorted:  "I have a problem?   You're the one showing me all the filthy pictures!"

I first saw that famous drawing when I was in high school (maybe earlier). I "know" what to see (both views). How many of the ~400 people surveyed also knew the image previously? They didn't have to "see" anything, just RECALL the image from prior exposure. If you look for a naive group who didn't have exposure to Western newspapers, magazines, education (every intro Psych course), the internet, etc. (all places where this cartoon frequently appears) then it is likely that they will have no clue about choker collars, feathery shawls, cotton bonnets, and other 19th century British style of dress.
.
Now if some artist could come up with an ambiguous image of nekkid ladies, that would be something -- perky boobs and knee caps in the young view become bulging eyeballs and saggy boobs in the old view -- that would overcome most cultural boundaries.
.
I gave it a try but I'm not a very good artist:

This was a famous experiment by Hudson in 1962. When he showed images of an elephant to different cultural groups, they expressed different preferences.  Which do you prefer?
.
(I knew that taking that Psych course would be useful for something someday. I just didn't know it would be on TER.)

So I guess that's the young lady, cause when reading the article it told me how to find what they call the old women. I have to say, the really OLD women I know don't look a 100 year old witch.

By a factor of several million, I prefer the good Senators pics over anything you have ever posted.

As for the elephants, I have no preference. Do you really think anyone here cares for either one after looking at all the hot pics that came before them. (Your other pic excluded of course. lol)

I've seen this before and still can't see the old lady even though I've seen it before once it has been pointed out.

There is a rumor circulating that the original 1960s research project was going to use images from Playboy and Juggs Magazines, however, the pictures kept disappearing, presumably pilfered by the research staff. The next best non-pilfered images they could come up with were elephants.

Perhaps like Mr. Fisher says, it means you are lucky (or maybe not as you miss things right in front of your face so might walk right into the trap...)

I always have to hunt for the old lady (young ladies chin becomes the old lady's nose and the young ladies choker necklace becomes the old ladies very stern mouth for those who care). BUT other than for the challenge of solving the problem  have not idea why I would ever normally make the effort.

If she has two heads?

Don't usually see too many two headed women, I don't think anyone would miss one if they saw one.

Hate to get all scientifiky but according to the study MOST people see the younger woman first regardless of their age.  However the very young viewers are less likely to see the older woman first than the younger woman, whereas the very old viewers are about equally likely to see the younger first than the older women, but still see the younger woman first more than the older woman.  In other words younger viewers have a more notable preference whereas older viewers are much more even handed.  One cannot therefore conclude the image preference is based on age bias, instead of, say, greater lifetime experience detecting multiple visual cues.

That whole paper is a pile of crap. The survey was via Mechanical Turk where age verification is impossible. How many MTs enter fake info? (Maybe there's a survey of THAT!) After all, a few Providers AND Clients have been known to misrepresent their true age, once in a while; why not MT participants? I'll bet that some MTs use multiple accounts with different ages and other stats.
.
Many wannabe participants had to be excluded because they couldn't even ID the cartoon (1) as a person or (2) as a female person! That, I argue, is because of the cultural context of the CLOTHING: a choker is usually worn by a younger women, cotton bonnet by an older woman. If you don't know "vintage" Western clothing, the picture is just a fuzzball with a feather on top. As I mentioned above, many people have seen the cartoon before and knew what it was and were not describing what they just saw but what they recalled. Older participants have seen the picture many more times than younger participants. Maybe they chose to average the old and young looks to give on answer?  MTs got paid 30 cents for participating; the authors estimated that it took 5 minutes which is probably a LOW estimate, just to read and understand the Informed Consent form. Anyway, 30 cents / 5 minutes = $3.60 / hour!  In India, that is 4x the average hourly wage of 40 cents per hour, so there are a lot of MTs from India.
.
Lots of other psych perception experiments (some discussed on these boards) have been much better. E.g., "beauty" or "female attractiveness" is often dominated by waist-to-hip ratio (not boobs or thigh gap or head-to-torso ratio), varying slightly between cultures. The test figures (double entendre) are very similar except for small differences in silhouette (shoulder width, waist, hip, thigh, height, arm length, torso length, ...).

I'd still like to see a good artist draw a good "ambiguous figure" of nekkid ladies, old and young, as described in my comment, above.
.
And I do agree with GaG that I always prefer to see the Senator weigh in with his provocative "opinions" on these matters. I hope he will do so again.
