A million years ago, the comic Marty Feldman had a skit on a comedy show wherein he traversed half the known world by plane, boat, car, mule, etc. to get to an illicit tryst and to keep it from his wife’s prying eyes. I haven’t gone quite that far, but money aside, I’ve done some stuff just to get at some new lovely. I think the craziest was, while on a biz trip to a foreign country with some colleagues where I didn’t know the customs or speak the language, leaving a business dinner early with a “headache”, taking a taxi to a disreputable part of town to meet a couple of ladies in a brothel that was down a dark alley, changing cabs on the way, and making sure the return cab dropped me off a half mile from my business hotel. I was this close to wearing a disguise. At least they were good lays.
I've never "changed cabs" but I have parked a mile away and hiked to a hotel to avoid my license plate being scanned by LE or just the risk of a parking ticket adjacent to a hotel. I've left a ballgame early to steal an extra hour, and squirreled away a change of clothes to further reduce the risk of coming home with the scent of a woman on me.
Something I would do if I must do ,but would take the utmost precaution. Any tryst am having would have to come to my hotel. You're living dangerously. Keep this up and you will have you ass handed to you one a these days...or maybe your head.
But some of you guys totally missed the point. Guess I should have been more clear. My point wasn’t to highlight my paranoia or to solicit advice; merely to have a laugh at myself and allow others who’ve done dumb stuff just for some strange to do the same. Lighten up guys. Chunking and John Laroche got my point.
FWiW I’ve been doing this on and off for a few decades now since the escapade I described, including in a few foreign countries; feel like I’ve gotten the hang of it. But thanks for your concern.
didn't get my point. If you know anybody in LE, the will tell you that people acting suspiciously draw attention to themselves and paranoia is often a driver in making people act differently than they normally do. You're more likely to find yourself in some kind of trouble if you consciously go out of your way and do things you wouldn't normally do in a vain attempt to make yourself feel safe. People who act scared or apprehensive are a prime target for muggers in big cities. You have to act normal but maintain situational awareness without giving yourself away. My earlier comment WAS "keeping it light." You forced me to be more serious. If you've been doing this for a few decades, you should know more about keeping yourself safe and invisible than you are letting on.
