IMHO, it's guilt, and having low standards.
They approach the hobby like it's a sickness and a sin, and they get what they feel they deserve.
I have noticed a tendency in my selection of some (not all) providers... The photo will be oh so compelling, and the promise of an hour of total bliss with a lady who just stepped of a shot from Penthouse, and before that made an XXX video.... not only that she wants to be MY girlfiend.... So I call, and make the appointment; and although she promises to be an independent provider, some dude named Chico answers the phone... Not deterred, and thinking that this is some answering service that she has hired with all her money for movies, guest apopearances and modeling.... and such.... I go ahead and ignore the obvious red flag on the field of play, and the scheduling of an appointment is done....
Voila, I get to the hotel, and second call... but no answer - again a red flag...- finally "Chico" calls back and informs me that "Cindy Centerfold" is ready (only 45 min late).... I go to the room.... go in, and there she is.... not quite "Cindy Centerfold" more like "Lateisha the Lunch Lady" who sticks her tongue out when she dishes up mystery meat and some form of gelatinous starch (don't really know if it is rice or potatoes... or worse - grits).... I go through with the session... (mainly because during the "warm up" conversation with Lateisha I find out that "Ricco" and "Bubba" will smash my nuts into my mouth if I don't... I go home and write the review.... looks - 1 and performance 0.... The review is accepted and posted....
Then 2 months down the line... I happen upon her review... and find that 3 other dudes... have visited her since my encounter..... Why is that? What did they expect...
The second thing that puzzles me, is in looking over some guys.... they may have seen a few ladies - but they give ALL of them a rating of between 0 and 6? how is that for a TER member... do they select the girls based on the fact that they will be disappointed.....????
Gotta say, this is a puzzle - and answers might help us use the "system better!"
What's wrong with grits?? Seriously, I try to approach the session without a preconceived notion, after having read other reviews, and realizing that my experience might be different that those who have gone before. I take each lady and each session on their own merits, not on someone else's input. Sometimes, reviews are not always accurate, but rather what the hobbyist WISHED would happen, or as a result of a wet dream. Don't know if that helps, but just my take on it.

I am temporarily on an "I'm in love" leave, but my last three visits went like this: The first of the three was a truly beautiful and charming lady in Chicago who came to my hotel, was absolutely gorgeous and very charming, and was warm and deliciously sensual. The second was in a small town in middle Pennsylvania. She was not gorgeous, but very cute and cuddly with a great smile. Our fun was really fun and then we went out to a nice dinner together. The third was a lady in her early 60s who was still physically sexy and who was a great lover, great oral skills, wonderful hip movement, very responsive to DATY, charming person. I never met Chico and haven't had the experience like you describe since I joined TER.If I had, I would not have had your courage.

1) Insanity (you know, doing the same thing over and over, each time expecting a different result).
2) Masochism
3) Someone truly benevolent towards our "thing".
4) Someone looking for their Mother?
Her average appearance score of 7.95 ± 1.0 (mean ± S.D., n=81) with a minimum of 5 and max of 10 (median being 8) is kinda tempting but with an average performance level of 2.26 ± 1.7 (mean ± S.D.) with a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 7 with the median being 2! ALl this in a period of time from 1999 to 2005.... Well, one wonders what the 81st guy was a thinking…..! Doesn’t one!????? Upon reading some of the material - I gather that she is a stripper... and we all know that their mission in life is to rapidly separate you from your money..... and provide you with lust..... for them...
Still, I read some of the dudes stories and on the part of some, there was no real expectation of sex, just the opportunity to see what she was like in private... others well, clearly they had no clue as to what she was about, and finally there were the seasoned players - who thought that "they" would be the exception to her approach to the hobby..... she must really be smokin hot looking is all I can think.
5) The truly narcissistic and egocentric guy that believes that his skill and charm will make all the difference.

Not a lot, but at least some of the reviews are written by guys looking for free VIP membership for writing reviews. The ladies with good reviews who participate in the site can spot fake ones and report them. Ladies with bad reviews tend to stay away and would not report a fake review.
As far as the guys seeing the provider that you gave a bad review on goes...maybe they didn't see the board until after the date. We ladies advertise in several places.
As far as the men giving ratings of 0-6...maybe their expectations are off the charts or maybe they just haven't found what they are looking for.

I demanded my money back and got my ass kicked.
there are probably more phony reviews out there then we'd like to acknowledge.
A) it could be someone trying to run down the competition
B) someone wanting free days and figuring that adding another bad review to someone who already has a few is less likely to get caught because someone with consistent bad reviews is untrustworthy/will look like sour grapes/doesn't check TER, whereas adding a good review may get caught if they state things the provider knows she never did.
they think they are that 'special' one and that it will be different for them....well, yes, they are correct....correct in being 'special', as in SPECIAL ED! Or just plain stupid.
