That has always been one of the legitimate reasons for aliases.

The reasons for the old TER policy are the most compelling argument

against the change TER just made.  Maybe they should go back and read them again.

Yep. the probelem is I don't think they ever read them

They just caved in to a few whiners. If they enforced the existing rules (All their good rules for using them, as well as the rule that said you cant use them to attack others, and you could be flipped) that would have been a much better solution than eliminating them.
