Why not, I earned it, not them. Why shouldn't I enjoy it? There will still be some for them, but I want to have fun in whatever time I have left, and I can't think of a better way to do it.
i used to go on vacations all over the world..now i spend my spare time visiting "Coochieland" and the greek islands..

In my foolish years, I spent time and treasure fixing, racing, and breaking perfectly good cars. This is a much safer and cost effective hobby in comparison.

From necessities , than what do you care what others spend ? Some may say you go for more $$$$s than they do ? But if you want to update certain things then pause for awhile . Nobody judges , there is no rule book .

I can retire today if I want to but I would have to stop the hobby. So I work only so I can play. So I guess I have given up retirement. I don't regret it. I guess I will retire when my cock stops working or I get bored with it
Yes. By hobbying I give up unhappiness (at least for some brief period of time) and get to spend some time being happy, instead.
Just for awhile, I get to feel alive, have someone who caters to my needs first, and treats me like I'm the most important person in the world (which of course I am, but try telling that to Mrs. Krinn...)
And Yeah, sorry 89Springer, but I think it's safe to say that most of the hobbyists on TER are deeper-pocketed than you.
I usually hobby when I have to be out of my home for a night or two, either for business, vacation or just a short escape to reset. So only giving up time I would be spending alone.
A previous poster commented about happiness. I've been thinking about this a lot. Back in my very late teens and early twenties, I'd spend a lot of time lying in bed with a girl and just running my hands over her skin, her curves, her hair, and just drinking it all in. I was mesmerized by the sight, feel and smell of a lovely young lady. There could have been bombs falling outside and I wouldn't have noticed. Those were the happiest moments of my life.
Now, I'm again with lovely young women, and I again spend a lot of time just lying there feeling and caressing and looking, and I'm once again as happy as I was 40+ years ago. I forget everything in the outside world. There's just me and this lovely person at my fingertips.
That's happiness.
As for furniture, I have some very nice pieces I've acquired over the years (expensive, too, thanks to the ex). Cars, motorcycles, all the toys. I'm not wanting for stuff.
I know my pockets aren't as deep as some here. They were before, and they may be again. For now, though, I'll take what I can get, while I can get it.

When I was younger, I was more financially serious than I am now ... I think that came from being in college (followed by grad school) + leaving a normal civvie job (where I had a 401K account building up).
I have never saddled by children / family obligations, however.
Now, I think it's okay to have fun. I have already achieved some major benchmark goals in my life. I loosened up + I have fun regularly. I don't feel bad about it.
People have different needs in life. Some people need "financial security." Some people need "recreation." They are both a huge part of the human experience. Neither one is more legitimate and real than the other. They serve different needs. People prioritize these things differently.
