If the only thing that caused pain was muscle tightening, then you would have a point, but there is also tearing, puncturing, rupturing and all sorts of other kinds of actual physical damage that can happen.
There is a huge difference between taking tylenol in response to pain that you already have vs. numbing a part of your body to prevent feeling the physical sensations that are about to occur.
