If you were a board moderator for a week...

What would you like to do differently than what the current mods are doing?

For example, when the board had the highly unpaid mods some of them started trainwrecks just for grins.  I think they did.  

Would you ever close a thread?

and I were mod again for a week. I wouldn't even log onto TER unless they had wifi on the TER jet, because that is where I would spend the entire week, renewing my membership in the mile high club over and over again for the entire week.

and I really can't remember how many threads I ever closed, usually I let them die a natural death, except of course when they were solidly on the right hand side of the page, like about half of the threads involving FG.

And I would not pull threads on request bit only for rule violations. I wouldn't ban any besides those that pose a proven risk. But that is me.

TER has rules and I would enforce them when needed I would just have a looser hand at it.

And I was trying to clarify. Given I break the law for fun (the hobby) it is strange that I tend to be a rules guy. I tend to hate censorship but feel some rules need to exist to allow all to be heard. TER has such rules. If I was a mod here I would enforce said rules but I would interpret them as liberally as possible while following them and when it is nessary I would enforce them with the aim curbing behavior that disrupts more so than trying to punish or ban. Basically I would have a lighter hand than current TER mods.  

And to be clear I am not trying to be critical of the current TER mods. I haven't always agreed with then and have openly called them out, but they have a hard job and do a decent job of it. I beeb a mod before and it isn't always fun and games. Sadly it comes with headaches. Honestly I am happy I am not a mod here.

Thread hijackers are what make TER almost unreadable. This thread started out with a valid question and devolved into the usual train wreck of people with personal vendettas. I would put a stop to that and tell people to start their own thread to attack their "enemy."

Hijacking becomes a problem.  

IMO bigguy30 is an illiterate moron, but the cure is worse than the disease which is why I simply stopped commenting. The problem with arguing with a moron is after a very short time it becomes almost impossible to tell which one of the parties is that actual moron

And speaking of hijacking, have you ever noticed that if you say "hi" to a friend named Jack on an airplane, the next thing you know you're in leg irons and being shipped to Gitmo?

But even that's not as bad as saying "hi" to someone named Gene.  Every freakin time I say it they say:  "What, do I smell?"

The problem is that if an OP starts a topic and the next 9 posts are "flame posts" or grossly off topic almost nobody is going to read the thread. It may not be closed but if almost nobody is reading it the thread is irrelevant. Ultimately participation drops and..........

One OP was so socially inept that a lot of his responses to threads were not only “flame posts” (as you call them) but off target/off the wall to the thread. With his flame post it brought in other OPs to flame his responses (and before you knew it), it was back and forth name calling and the integrity of a thread was lost. Participation was there, but the nonsense was a nuisance. It also continued to annoy when repeated in other posts. (Perhaps participation then tailed off?) This is just one example, but then I understood why trees and even threads were closed when one initiates and another responds and it spirals out of control over something foolish or hurt egos.

Anyway, I haven’t seen his posts on the boards of late; maybe he stopped or was banned from the boards—If the moderators do that?  

I don’t know whether a flame post is started by a moderator just for grins. It would depend on how the audience responds. Hopefully, it is all in fun and not to be taken too seriously; that is, nobody gets hurt.  But then there is always wit and humor to draw a laugh towards a lame post
