TER General Board

Here is the definition of shill:

"A shill is an associate of a person selling goods or services or a political group, who pretends no association to the seller/group and assumes the air of an enthusiastic customer."

But when I praise a provider (name redacted to stay with the rules ;) ) I am an enthusiastic customer not a shill.

So what's the problem with expressing my appreciation for a deserving lady?

that there is no way for a mod or Staff to determine that you are in fact an enthusiastic customer, and not a shill.

Also, there is a slightly different definition, to which you may be one of:

"a person who publicizes or praises something or someone for reasons of self-interest, personal profit, or friendship or loyalty."

Maybe it is loyalty, since she is your ATF, and shouting out for her gets her more business, which keeps her around?

Or, you have become friends, and she is lamenting the downturn of the economy, so you want to help out?

Then we go into all of the nefarious sides of things where guys strong arm the ladies into giving discounts if they give great reviews or posts on the board.

Bottom line, since the mods and staff cannot tell the difference, the best thing to do is to ban them all, to keep the possibility of the nefarious side of things from cropping up.

and it takes the pressure off of the mods choices.

Great Post...Kisses Haley

from now on i guess i shall have to curb my enthusiasms.

Great post Humble.
I look at it like this. We participate on TER for many reasons, the main reason the majority of  hobbyists are here is for the reviews. So if the beautiful woman you were just with is so great where you must tell everybody on earth,(or on TER, is there a difference? lol)do it in a review.

The place to show your apprciation of a great provider is in the review. If you had a great experience expand on all the good things there were about the lady.  Don't just get by with the minimum for acceptance of the review. On the other hand, if your expeience is not so great, say so. It helps the other hobbyists avoid a dissapointment.

It depends whether you're expressing a genuine observation and dispensing honest advice. Or whether you have an ulterior motive.

If you saw a provider and had a great time, there's nothing wrong with letting people know about it. But, if she told you, "post something about me on TER and I'll give you a discount" -- a fact you fail to mention -- then you're shilling.

(This is a more blatant example, however it could be more subtle, as someone on the thread mentioned earlier, like wanting to generate more business for a provider you enjoy seeing to make sure she gets enough business to stick around. In which case, you could say, "Hey, I saw this provider, she was great. Go see her guys because I want to make sure she stays in business" -- in this way, you're upfront and honest about why you're posting.)

the SF board just a few minutes ago.    Mod..don't ban me! :-)

The discussion on the local SF board was about "true GFE" experience and the seemingly low volume of GFE providers in SF area.    Then I gave two examples of local providers who ARE GFE.

So is that an unauthorized shill?
