Neither of them asked me. I just came out and told them both after I did some soul searching which lead to me knowing that these two people should have the option to stay with me or leave me if they know what risk we'd all be taking.  
The younger one blew the fuck up for about 30 minutes and then he finally calmed down and now he's settled into a very supportive role.  
The older one didn't bat an eye when I told him and he's been supportive and very interested from a business standpoint since day one. He often asks questions about the business side as well as other aspects.  
I got extremely lucky with these two. I prepared myself for both of them to leave me but they both stayed... I can't really say much on the 'expecting to be alone' part.
