TER General Board

I think it's great that this guy is being honest.

Do I want a Govenor that is getting high?  No, but do I care if he did in college?  Hell NO.  Many people experiment with the stuff at least once, it's not that unusual.

Why do we expect our officals to be saints in this country? As long as you are addressing things that matter and not taking money from inappropriate places- I don't give a shit what you did in college or who you're fucking.

However, there are many people in my parents' and grandparents' generations that would vote for someone else based on an admission of former drug use, even if they tried it only once, which is pretty hard to conceive considering he's talking about the 70's. lol. Either way, he ran a risk by admitting it, but it would definitely be something that would preclude him from running for President absent some major religious revelation that led him to God or some stupid shit they all spout to absolve themselves.

Katie

So many people in the late 60's and early 70's did all that and more, that revelations like this are not shocking at all to them unless they grew up in a convent or have since developed Spitzer-levels of hypocrisy. Remember, this was the generation of Timothy Leary and Free Love, before crack and AIDS. It was a different world. I'm guessing that was your parents' generation. They probably did some things that would surprise you, or at least their friends did.

in this country and in so doing we've eliminated a lot of very competent people who don't want their laundry aired in public.  Damned shame.

Erin O'Bryn ran for Congress from Hawai'i in 2006.  We need more public officials like her.

I recall a number of political discussions I had with her that fall ........

Europeans don't care. Why should we? I could care less what president is bonking what intern as long as he or she is doing the job. It's a shame that this even gets exposed to the public like some poorly written tabloid news story. Who cares! I also prefer a president that has experimented with drugs, been a friggin' hippie, gone to war, etc. No one can live up to some hypocritical hero emblem they have to wear on their sleeves, only to be ripped apart by a puritanical society and their opposition.

Hugs,
Ciara

when he was asked if he had seen prostitutes and said:  "only the lobbyists"

There is more corruption and betrayal of the taxpayers going on with those (sometime legal/sometime not so legal) liasons, yet no one really gets too shook up about it until all the horses are out of the barn.

Why is Bill Clinton's BJ still such a big issue with Punditocrazies?

Never cared what politicians did in their private life. Only cared what they did for the masses. As a matter fact, all great leaders historically had a quirk starting from pre-historic times.

Like Patterson's candid comments.

I don't care who they sleep with or if they smoke a little weed now n again...but then again if they are here to enforce the laws, and govern, I do think they need to follow them. I can be a hypocrite, I am not running for office and stating that I am squeaky clean. By arresting the bad guys on wall street for poor money practices, and putting people in jail for breaking the law over prostitution, then to turn around and do all you enforced as law yourself, well thats a big no no.
Personally I could care less, but he's doing one thing and saying another. It's a problem.

I don't think I have done anything illegal since the 70' s either.

Unless of course someone else thinks different.

LOL

Two can keep a secret if.
