Just watched a rerun of Columbo (old detective series) and saw Valerie Harper before she  became well known on the Mary Tyler Moore show and later Rhoda.

..an episode of Three's Company when one of Chrissy's old high school friends comes to visit. Turns out that she was a $100 a night call girl. I believe this was during the early 80's.

Arctic Monkeys.....

...but I recently saw the 2015 movie "Zipper" and it unnerved me quite a bit with some of the angst, paranoia and awkwardness the main character displayed that comes when you first begin hobbying. Brought back some uneasy memories.

1934's "The Merry Widow" shows a bevy of beautiful escorts working the wealthy men at Maxim's nightclub in Paris.  The scene goes on for about 20 minutes and clearly indicates these ladies are "for-hire" companions.  Features a young Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald before she teamed with Nelson Eddy.

79 Park Avenue starring Lesley Ann Warren.  Story begins in NYC in 1935. One unfortunate experience after another leads a very nice girl into this world.  Great acting. Lesley Ann Warren is beautiful and IRL resembled a previous GF from that time in my life.

i know what you're trying to say, but i hate to tell you that there was both movies and tv in 1955.

most realistic modern escort movie I ever saw = " Bruna Surfer Girl "

The 1967 French film Belle de Jour is a good watch starring the beautiful Catherine Deneuve.

DAMN!! The way she looked in this flick I'd be committing mortal sins with her every chance I could get LMAO!!

While Melanie Griffith was in "Working Girl", she played a secretary not an escort. She did have a great role in "Body Double" where she played Holly Body, a porn star who did private work on the side. She played a hooker in "Milk Money", though "Body Double" IMHO was a better movie.

Actually 2 movies I want to ask -
 both I watched very very long time - in Russia- I was innocent enough and I was not even American  
 so I knew ZERO about escorting an american style of life and ways

Starts from funeral of man who was raising a girl himself - now as he died his girl - a teen - has to o to her mother back to FL - Mom is an escort - high end escort  
Mom is not really happy with becoming a mother ( she dropped a child back  then to father ) and now she is using to idea to take care about someone else .. movies shows her going to dates to hotels.. and  teen girl learning what mom does .. there was even meet and greet - on boat - ( now I do understand that it was meet and gore - when I watched movie I was clueless what is that a party ? so girl in rebelling  spirit - went to this meet and greet - mom ran  there and took her out of this party as mom was not happy about her also becoming an escort  
 Finally mom did marry to to client -  regular - and they lived happy after all  
I was young and naive and not american - I was so far from all what is happening in the movie  now I would be so happy to watch it again ..
