i never had one, but heard from one of my dates , which he is a MD..that a bad flu is coming in this year..He told me no side efforts, but kinda of scare still..i not really into taking any kind of meds..only when i have too..I was told from different sources, that you can get fevers and feel like you have the flu after the shot??? Like i said this is my first time getting this...So i want to know what i am in for after i get this shot....any info would help..just doing my homework on it...thanks oxoxs linda

i always thought so too..that it is bs...i am not sick..but trying not to be..with traveling on planes and being close to people..just thought it would be a good idea this year....

And have not gotten the flu once in that time. I am generally very healthy, but I have gotten the flu on a few occasions in the past. I also have all but stopped getting colds during this time.

I understand that there is a strong anti-science sentiment in our country and globally, and I see the anti-vaccination sentiment as part of that. Vaccinations are valid medical tools that have proven value in reducing the incidence of any number of diseases (diptheria, smallpox, polio, etc.). Yes, the flu vaccination is a little different situation, given the mutating nature of the ailment, but the shots still have a proven track record of helping. It will be more effective in some years than others, no question.

More to the point - why not get the shot? While you can find all sorts of half-baked crap on the web about the complications from vaccinations, the fact is that more people get flu shots every year than all other vaccinations combined (and that is a whole bunch) and proven ill effects are so rare as to be close to non-existent. But the flu is also not really life-threatening unless you are very old, very young, or in bad health, so maybe any risk is too much? To me, that is the only valid argument for not getting vaccinated, and obviously it is not enough to deter me. After all, the best kind of medicine is preventive, to not get sick, and a shot is the easiest way to do that.

Get the flu shot. The CDC tries to predict the top three strains of flu for the next  year. There are hundreds of strains of flu each year. I will never get the flu shot and I deal with sick people all day long.  The risks are not worth it for me.

Just days after the shot, I came down with flu like symptoms.  Since then I have never gotten the flu.

I discussed this with my doctor and he recommended that I not get flu shots.

I take a daily immune building supplement (Kyolic formula 103) and hardly ever even get a cold anymore.

When you get a flu shot, you actually get the flu and will sometimes have flu symptoms.  The vaccine will give you a dose low enough to sometimes feel some symptoms but you will build up the antibodies you need to fight the flu if you were exposed to it later.

In normal day-to-day activities, proper procedures (washing hands frequently, not touching your face, etc) can really help prevent catching the flu or even common colds.  However, this will be my first flu season in the hobby.  Being intimate with providers, especially those that tour, who are exposed to many other men from all over the country will significantly increase the risk of exposure, regardless of how often you wash your hands or how well you take care of yourself.  

We are all aware of the potential risk of STD transmission, but the risk of flu transmission is greater because the flu affects the respiratory system.  Kissing an infected client or provider, especially DFK and heavy breathing during sex will likely result in transmission.  While the flu typically shows symptoms within 1-4 days of infection, it's certainly possible that a client or provider could have it, be contagious and not yet know it, during a session.

I seem to hear about a "bad" flu almost every year and haven't had the flu in years.  The fact that the flu will be "bad" wouldn't drive me to get a flu shot, but participating in this hobby may.

Will never get a flu shot again the side effects they don't tell you about can kill you or leave you paralyzed from Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Know someone who got this from shot who was fortunate to recover but still needs cain to walk.

not to get too technical but you can no longer get "the flu" from the flu shot.  yrs ago you could and did because the vaccine was made of live but weakened flu virus.  now it is made from dead flu so you may get a "flu-like reaction" with fever, achy, etc for a few days but that's it.  this is much preferable to the true flu which is not just a "bad cold".  flu will put you out of commission for 5 days or so, that is 5 days you are not working, making $$$.  the great majority of people get the vaccine and there is never a problem.  a very tiny minority get severe complications ie Guillan Barre but this is very rare and should not dissuade you.  in this business every time you "trade spit" you can get the flu.  just my $0.02.

Used to get them every year.  Now I am with a doc who recommends mega-doses of Vitamin D, and no flu shots (because the FDA rushes them to market with minimal research each year).  His experience is that his hi-D, no flu shot patients have less flu than the normal-D, flu-shot folks...

Even since my travel schedule picked up 3 years ago, and I've begun doing more networking I've gotten a flu shot every year.  Other than the prick, I feel fine (that's what she said...).  Just got mine yesterday and no issues.

Every body need its natural immune system to be strong. Besides, it is crapshoot. Most Flu Shots are based one or two strains of flu. If the strain is different you get it any way and if your immune system is weak, you become dearly ill.

is that the flu shot isn't just for you (18-50 year olds) it's for the elderly and the very young, they can actually die from it. You may not realize it but if you had  been exposed to the flu you are contagious to others up to 3-4 days before symptoms arise. So you are not only protecting yourself but others as well. Many people are unaware that several very nasty diseases have been as good as eradicated or on that path from the planet because of vaccinations, ie smallpox. It will harm you in no way to get it the most you would feel is soreness at the injection site and very mild flu-like symptoms as the body mounts a defense against the proteins injected by the vaccine and subsequently memory against future similar proteins (Virons).Pan esb

I can you tell you this:  The one year I didn't get one because there was a shortage, I got more sick than I have ever been.

I get them religiously, and they work FOR ME.  For others, I have heard it just makes them sick and doesn't make them less susceptible.
