Recently my handle has been used to make variations of aliases that I find demeaning to me, and a case where, though it was said it was a joke, I felt it slammed a provider. I'm greatly concerned that there might be new people who confuse my handle with such an alias. I've logged my complaint, with no satisfaction. So, I will not be planning to participate in this community any further. I've enjoyed bantering, sharing, learning, PMing with some great people on this board, but I find this behavior crosses that line.

Mattrad - I value your many contributions here. This place would not be the same without you.

I wish you would take time to reconsider....

And I am going to propose on "Suggestion and Policy" that there be a rule against aping someone's username. I see no context in which this is useful to the board.

I read some of your posts and you seem like an intelligent person. It never fails though, the discussions turn ugly and people's feelings get hurt. This is supposed to be fun and informative, but just today on my beloved Florida board there's a bunch of people unloading on each other for no good reason. Yesterday it was the Porn Star board with some drama over someone's perceived slight. This is supposed to be FUN! Dammit!

Mattradd, stick around. Comment occasionally and then let it go. These circular threads just go round and round and nothing is ever resolved and, in fact, they aren't supposed to be resolved, they are simply fodder for more of the same issues down the road, but in the process people get their feelings hurt when it becomes personal.

See it for what it is, a forum for views, and accept the fact that no one has "the" answer.

there is the possibility that you could change your alias to something that could not be used that way for instance.

there are always risks in paricipating in an open forum. imagine, if you will, discovering through literary style and a certain lack of imagination that an old enemy of yours is on TER. you'd think that might be enough to persuade me to leave, wouldn't you?

all i'm saying is please reconsider. it could be worse.

I do get notes from others encourging my participation.  If I can offer my thoughts and they are useful to some, then that is my measure and not what some person of limited capacity to contribute might think.

We all know that there are many on the boards who poke fun, take cheap shots and in general do not contibute constructively to the community.  I would offer that if you leave, then there will be fewer people who are constructive... is that a good thing?  Probably not, for those with less to offer, care not that you are gone.  Trust me, they will just go after the next in line.

But if that is your desire, then I wish you well!  Best

        I enjoy reading these boards and enjoy reading what you have to say. I don't think for the most part that the majority of us pay a whole lot of attention to the idiots that behave poorly here on the boards. I do think that they do this to cause people to get upset as they get their kicks from it. To give up allows them to win. It's better to ignore them as most of the rest of us do. I for one hope you'll reconsider.

I think you are overreacting.
If this is all it takes to get you to leave TER or the boards, I would suspect that is not your real reason.
Don't worry...Your board reputation has not changed a bit. You have 931 posts in the last 365 days. Two little funny posts are not going to make a difference.  

I know people come and go on these boards but perhaps this should be a cause to get rid of aliases, especially when it is used to attack someone.

I know it's good to take a break once in awhile. Some people really can be jerks, but don't let it keep you from posting in the future. I will miss your posts, hon.

I have read your posts with pleasure and I hate to see you leave. I wish you would reconsider.  You will be missed.

leave TER at our choosing. Please don't let some spineless dirtbag who doesn't have the courage to stand behind his/her own posts make this choosing for you. You've made many positive, thoughtful contributions to all of the TER boards over the few months I've been a member.  While I don't necessary agree with you all the time, that's the great thing about living in the U.S. of A. If you do in fact leave for good, I bid you fair winds and following seas.

I tune out of TER for months at a time. Now I am back in the game (coincident with a bit more hobbying). Just chill out for awhile and come back once the vultures have cleared. I have seen some real jerks become some of the most valued posters over time. Just my 2 cents.  But then, no one has cloned my name...who would?!

letting some alias assclown literally chase you off the board is quite another. Don't give the asshole, whoever he/she is the satisfaction.

If you do choose to leave, the board will be the worse for it. We may disagree on many subjects, but you are one of the good guys, someone has to balance out the assholes on this board. (Yes I am referring to myself. lol)

Seriously, I hope the powers write the rules to block cloning someone else.

let me tell you that I have been around here for a long time, over 5 years.
In that time, I have had my share of a%$hole alias posters trying to rile me up.

Think of it this way...

If they are trying to make fun of you, you MUST be doing something right.

Don't let the jerks get to you.
They will always be here.
Most people know who they are and what they are saying.
If you stick around, continue to post positive, good things, people will be able to pick out the jerks.

You can see by the responses that you are well thought of and people do care. Stick with that.

The best thing you can do is to stay and really drive them crazy.
That's my solution.
I refuse to let any of those a%&holes drive me away before I'm ready.

Please rethink your choice and not let someone who cares nothing for this board win out.We must stick together to keep this board active and interesting.

No one is ever going to like every post but each and every entry that you add has been thoughtfully read by your friends here and others that you won't post will be greatly missed.

I didn't see exactly what you are referring to, but its happened to others as well. Even on P&R, which is "unmoderated", someone got taken to task by PTB for doing just that. But its since been repeated.

Its a shame nothing was done in your case. Did you PM DC about it, and he could at least flip the alias so it doesn't remain up.

You are far too active, and contribute on many boards here... you know you like this place. Don't give it up... especially when you know you did not exhaust all your options in trying to get this issue resolved.

Leaving should be the last option, not the act of resignation you make it out to be.

hey I'm not one to beg but I'll miss your funny posts and I don't think I'm the only one that got your wit. BTW I did see the post you were referring to. It did make me sit up and say WTF... for all of 2 seconds till I realized it was not you but a attempt to lend their post the weight one from you would carry. So sad their own name can't command the respect that so many of your peers give you.

I hope you reconsider your pulling back from participation because you have always made a great contribution to the boards.  The replies you've received on this thread definitely demonstrate your value to the boards and fellow members.

in a way that allows me to feel confident that people attempting to misrepresent someone, whether in attempt at humor, or maliciousness, will be dealt with. Because of this, I am choosing to continue to participate on this board. For most of us, professionally, if we are misrepresented, it can have enormous consequences, and it was not easy for me to separate out this issue from having it done to me on this board.

I would like to thank everyone for all the very kind support I received. I have more friends than what I was aware of.

I feel a bit like Dennis the Menace or Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, returning home after running away; pretty sheepish, but I felt very strongly that this matter, for me, could not go without some sort of resolution.
