I am having a heck of a time getting a card to work to pay for VIP. Any tips?

Do you have a TER Profile and one or more reviews? You can link your account (sindywife) to your Profile and get free, limited VIP privileges that include PM and other benefits. The link to your Profile will show up on your TER posts as the "See My TER Reviews" hot link.

gift VIP days to other members.  I have done it recently.  Have you EVER gifted VIP days, or is this post a not-so-subtle fishing expedition for someone to gift YOU some VIP days.  Lol
