However, I think the use of an alias makes sense if the content of the post may affect the person's business, or their ability to participate in P4P.
The childish uses of aliases are occasionally amusing, but overall probably hurt TER's business.
Damn typos! LOL (3 edits)
I post this after reading an inquiry on the newbie board asking if a review can be posted using an alias.
IMHO, we are all already using an alias by having a handle... even the respectable mrfisher is most likely recognized at his local DMV by a different last name.
By all these posters using aliases constantly, doesn't it take away from this board. I've read the TER terms regarding the usage of aliases and the acceptable reasons to use one... and agree with the terms. Perhaps there are situations where you're able to add something VALUABLE to a thread but don't want to attach yourself to that specific post... OK, great, use an alias; but when literally half the posters... more than half in some threads are using aliases I feel it takes away from the TER boards.
LittlePhil, GaGambler, Guys and Gals... What do you say we tighten it up a little and get back to using aliases only when appropriate/necessary???

I do what I want. Oh, and respect my authoritae.
How about some Cheesy Poofs and a nice chocolate chicken pot pie?
And, semi-seriously, I have a bunch of aliases, half of which I've never used. I think most of them are funny as hell. I use them to gently poke fun, hardly ever to flame, or to post info I don't want associated with my handle for personal reasons. I would like to believe these are all legitimate reasons and rely on the mods to rein things in if they see fit. My problem is I keep forgetting to check not to use my handle and an alias in the same thread, which has resulted in my being moderated. I do wish aliases were not so frequently used to flame, but, hey, the near anarchy of this board is one of its more appealing attributes.
Should be using them, but choose to make fools of themselves under their real fake alias.
We should be loosening up around here, not tightening up. Don't be a pooperdog.
Because I am always making a fool of myself.
It is what I do best. ![]()
That have no self esteem.
I am assuming that I am speaking to the male half.
And most people who poke fun of themselves don't have self esteem issue in my experience. Anyway if you can't poke fun at yourself who can you poke fun at? You take things way to serious. Just one fool's opinion on a anonymous board where everyone is using an alias.

I mean besides this one. And that other one I have. Oh... and the other ones too.
I agree though. I think an alias can allow others to speak more freely than they otherwise might.
I think there should be a separate board for aliases. The alias you were born with here, and are known by here, should be the one used on the existing board. Extra, temp aliases should be limited to their own little world. Everyone equal in their extra blanket of security.
I can understand having one alias from the outside world. But infinite aliases to hide from fellow members in the same community only erodes over time.

To laught at grown men, with their panties in a knot.
Lighten up and let your savior be the humor.
Don't want to ruin your customer base by coming off as a total biotch.
Let your honesty be your savior.
I never use additional aliases. If it wouldn't cause a possible compromise of security for the ladies, I'd use my real name. I am not ashamed or embarrassed to share my opinion under my username. There are "sensitive situations" in which I could see an alias being appropriate, but I will NEVER put myself in one. It surprises me that so many use aliases on this site, whose existence is based on the word "naked", but I don't run the world. So carry on - you will be acknowledged or dismissed as the boards' readers see fit.
Its a pretty big stretch to cite legitimate reasons for using aliases on top of an already anonymous alias. But for those who think such a reason exists, a discussion board for for aliases is a good idea. That would be a level playing field. Everybody who goes there gets to play pretend. I would guess moderating such a board would be unnecessary given their nature of the moving target. Schizophrenic individuals here probably need this outlet, but they should be segregated to the short bus.

I just don't like alias attack posts. If someone is going to poke fun or flame anther person on the board they should do so in the open, like I do. To hide behind an alias and attack someone is plain cowardice. That is the only time I think aliases should not be allowed.
The comments are no more or less valid with/without an alias, except in cases where the posters gender is in question. As you said, the handle is an alias to begin with.
I don't have any use for the alias, I stand by my opinions whether popular or not. Whatever rep that gives me on this board - I couldn't give less of a fuck. This is but a small part of my life. Those who live here, of course, feel differently.
You should be glad they have alias' though; most of the time it's the only way you can get an honest answer from the girls - lest they be scrutinized for their true feelings when already under a microscope in every other conceivable way. Most are smart enough to know that half of these fucktards can't handle the reality of this thing, as we see time and again; saavy enough not to dismantle the illusions their clients have of them.
Why the guys choose to use an alias, I have no idea. Me thinks some take their "board presense" a little too seriously...er...WAY to seriously. Others have likely made the mistake of correlating their handle to their real identity, bragging up their hordes of reviews and/or percieved "rockstar status" on these boards and don't want their ATF to know their darker thoughts. But either way, that's not my problem.
Most of this shit is laughable, even if often pathetic. I don't really care who's writing it, it's still funny.
everything anyone posts is a lie, even if they think, in their heart of hearts, it is true.
This board is my passion and will eventually destroy me!!!! help...
What you just posted is a lie, then everything anyone posts is true even if they think it is a lie.....true?
Thank you

The way I see it the term alias AS USED on this board is any name other than the one on your TER birth certificate.
For the purpose of this board The name on your TER birth certificate is your "real name" and any other name you use is an alias
As for me, I suppose, technically, you could say I have numerous aliases, however since the Followme family is so large I allow my cousins and other family menbers to sign on using my TER log in name then go to their names such as
SantaFollowmeClaus
FatherFollowme
EasterFollowmeBunny
PopeFollowmeLXIX
DrFollowmeOBGYN
RabbiFollowme
Followmeopolis
ClassFollowmeClown
CoachFollowme
DrFollowmeMD
to name just a few of my family (there are many others )
So technically these are aliases , however in my case they are all real members of the followme family.
To the best of my knowledge they do behave themselves.
I hope this clears it all up
Thank you
2011 = 28
I'll do without. If I can't say what I want to say under my 'true' alias, what's the point?
Just a matter of preference I guess. I don't find the humor in it, nor the reason. Though, I do admit, I know who some of the alias' originated from. Either by their own admission, or by their writing style.
Yes, you alias' are transparent at times.... lol!
But to each their own, and if you get your rocks off in such a matter, who am I to judge? ![]()
Frankly many discussions would not happen without them, Do you seriously think a scared newbie is going to ask a question as freely if he cant use an alias, what about the guy who wants advice about a broken condom, or hobbying with a cut, or a question as simple as what does this STD look like; Ni I think these questions would most likely go unasked. Not to mention members who may have given their handle to providers for verification. Sometimes a lady would rather not be associated with a particular post; what if you reviewed her; what if she's a stalker. What if she is pissed about her review. There are also times when using your real handle may appear more inflammatory then an alias. I suggest that everyone stop bitching about aliases, and concentrate on their proper use. I would further suggest that If you feel that strongly about the miss use of an alias you report it to the appropriate moderator. If Alias rules are followed and enforced there should be no reason for this kind of weekly post.
Doc
Shirking accountability and responsibility is the only real reason. They know they will not be held to what they say within they hobby community. You can make up all kinds of reasons, but face it. You like to play dress up and do drive-bys. I'm only suggesting you do it in your own sandbox. Nobody is censoring you and your multiple identities.
Seems to me it would behoove the fakers to think more about what they are saying than who they will pretend to be.
If the people using these aliases could use them in PMs, they would. I'm certain that would multiple the PMs everyone gets.
ITS SPAM.
I post a thread a few years ago and it got immediately delete. I posted the same thread a few months later under an alias and it was allowed. Whomever the powers may be, the aliases are a protective class.
Betcha they are the ones that write fake reviews. Or the ones that advertise with fake pictures. Certainly the most suspecious.

Holey diver that was meant for fair_use not you. Sorry
Read the rules, as to why aliases are allowed, I guess some one telling you is not enough. P.s. How about you stop trolling for post you don't like and focus on the rules(especially mine!!)
There are rules about spam too, if they are not followed do we get rid of any avenue that may lead down such a path. Or perhaps the rules that are should be what you guys continue to wine about.
Doc
Makes it easy to spot the trolls.
Doc
Scenario:
- poster posts on NCNS on local board, or posts "has put on 20 pounds and 10 years since pictures were taken"
- provider takes revenge and blacklists poster
I've seen this one happen, as well as other hobbyists or provider, meaning to share information with their fellow hobbyists/providers, getting crap directed their way for no good reason.
Let's face it: part of the reason aliases exist is that TER foresaw that members WOULD need the ability to speak here without being attached to their hobbying/providing identity.
Now, granted, most of the aliased activity in GD is puerile crap (and, mostly unfunny, though the occasional funny poster does sneak through)- but we don't outlaw free speech because people use it to say juvenile and trite things. And aliases serve a purpose, though you choose to ignore it.
So, we done with the bi-monthly "aliases suck and the people who use them are chickenshit losers" tirade? This one's old enough to have white hairy whiskers.

Indulge me. What are the top 3? Or just name 2 if you want. I don't know of 1 good reason.
Matt...
My main reason is that as a regular reader/participator on the boards, I feel like I get a sence of the posters personality and how well versed in this hobby the individual is. I form an opinion of these people and weigh in on their thoughts based on my opinion of them.
That stated, someone may start a thread and the first few responers may take the same general opinion... then, mrfisher or GaGambler or scoed, etc may jump in with an opinion that is the total opposite of the first few.
I would be more likely to lean in the direction of the posters I recognize to be well versed in this than some random alias vomitting some bullshit because some of the people here actually know what the fuck they're talking about, and others (mostly the pussies that use aliases) are just here to get attention for themselves or start a flame war.
That's why I feel the way I do and introduced this thread. After reading through it, it seems others are of a similar opinion.

Bottomline: Alias = troll.
I don't consider myself to be a troll. There was a few times I used an alias to protect my wife but a aliased ass linked my aliased post to my well known TER handle and caused my wife and I great grief. My wife is now outed to the one person she was trying to hide it from on the boards because I used an alias to talk about her and someone linked it. The two I have use but are now in the open for this is bustedLE, and ANEscortsHusband.
I have used an alias to express my opinion on a sensitive subject as to not upset any of the ladies. It was about an issue I am trying to overcome. It was in no way an attack on anyone.
I used an alias as a joke scoedthemagina and Busted-Hobbyist are the handles I used for that purpose. I always link my joke handles to my real ones.
I have used two others that people on this board besides the mods, and my friends MP67 and Cleo don't know it is me and I would like to keep it that way. I have never flamed anyone as a alias even if the deserved it.
It is true often alias=troll but not always. There is uses for aliases besides being a troll.
that is a troll can be flipped. There are reasons for aliases. Aliases are allowed, I hope you can get past that. Why not focus on there miss use rather then there existence.
Doc
I suppose I can understand that. But try focusing on the message more than the messenger. There will always be forum regulars who post using their handle, to make you feel more secure that you are receiving opinions from credible veteran hobbyists. But yours is a trivial and selfish concern, with all due respect, that does not warrant a forum-wide crackdown on alias use. There are so many good reasons why hobbyists use aliases, and they far outweigh the perceived lack of community you feel here.
Are there trolls who abuse aliases? Of course. There always will be. But each one will die very quickly, if we refuse to feed them.

I have no problem stating what I want to say under my real handle, my real name, linked to my website.
If I have something to say I will just say it... I stand by my opinions and if someone does not like me or judges me based on something I have said or given an opinion about, well that is on them... not me
