Great results, vision still good enough for the FAA to let me fly without glasses. They even corrected an astigmatism. Previous vision was 20/800, now it's 20/25 and 20/30.

Best $3K I ever spent. It's a lot cheaper now, but I'd look for the best, not a bargain.

I was going to but my left eye was actually too screwed up to risk having it. I have a couple of friends who did and they think it was great. But it is a surgical procedure and there are risks.

...I would really, really, REALLY love to give this to my brother for his birthday, who has always had horrible eyesight.  He has gone as far as to see that he would be a candidate for the procedure, but can't afford to pay for it himself (ah, to be a penniless undergrad again!).

He lives in the San Diego area, and I would really love some recommendations on some of "the best" doctors in the San Diego or Los Angeles area to perform the procedure (he is my little bro', after all -- nothing but the best!).  I would like to purchase directly for him, so he can't refuse (which he will try to do).

Please send any recommendations via private hushmail or on the board (no TER mail, sorry), either way -- thanks in advance!!!

I went through my optometrist. She handled all post-op care and follow through.

This si the group she works with and she's ULTRA conservative (I trust her without question).

I've worked with this medical field in other jobs, so I know some of the people doing this. Stay away from the bargain people.

(I was -12 in each eye, they don't measure my old prerscription in 20/xxxx format. I couldn't see the bloody walls).

My brother is also closer to 20/xxxx than 20/800....  Do you still wear corrective lenses or contacts?  If so, do you wear them part time or full time?  How is your nighttime vision versus daytime?  Do you have any daylight sensitivity?

Lots of questions, I know!  LOL

TIA!!

I'm from SC.  I've had out of pocket quotes as low as $599 / eye with "correction/adjustments" for additional cost to $999/eye with lifetime adjustments.  Those prices I had to travel to Atlanta for 1 night stay over, and must have someone with me.

In Charleston/M.Beach Area I've found it in similar price ranges, varying degrees of follow-up and support.

Currently looking into provider that is suggested by Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Tru Vision, who has directed me to $895/eye, lifetime adjustments with slight additional cost if ever needed.  Good thing is its the area's most active Dr. and only 35 miles from home.  Considering the tradeoffs, it seems to be the direction I'm headed.

If you have a company Flex Spending Account(pretax money set aside for medical expenses), its one of the qualifying health expenses, so you can pay for it with Pre Tax wages..  so my cost of $1790 is cut by approximately 20-25% by using my flex spending allocation.

From what I can recall hearing quite some time ago it's not always a good idea.  It will defintely improve your vision, but in some cases the cause of the poor vision (as is I think often the case with nearsightedness) continues to grow as a person gets older.  But with the surgery I believe it's a once-only thing & glasses or contacts can't be used to correct vision in the future should it become necessary.  I personally chose not to have the surgery for that reason, even though my heredity nearsightness seems not to have worsed for years.  There may have been changes in procedures since I looked into it that makes the above a moot point, I don't know.  But obviously your best bet obviously is to get advise on both the pros & cons from a professional.

I agree with Puck. Best thing I've EVER done, but get the best, NOT the cheapest.

I was at the opthamologist for a routine check a few weeks ago and asked about it as an alternative to glasses or contacts, neither of which I care for. I was told that all surgery has its risks, and while many people had good results, a small number would have been better off had they not gotten the surgery. If the surgery does create problems, I was told you can be stuck with them for life. The last piece of advice I got was that if I decided to have the surgery done, get one eye done and then the other - don't do both at the same time in case there's a problem. After thinking about it, I decided to stick with the glasses and contacts. Forever is a long time when it comes to my vision, and the surgery sounded like a case of, like Dirty Harry said, how lucky do you feel?

I had both of my eyes done last month and am extremely happy with the results. My suggestion is Kremer Laser Center in King of Prussia, PA. They are the pioneers and by all reckoning, the best in the field.
Call Kremer and set up a free consultation and check your candidacy.
BTW, my surgeon was Dr. Aronsky.
Feel free to drop me a line if you have any other questions or concerns.

Anna from our agency got her eyes lazered a few months ago.
But she still wears glasses for bookings, because that naughty 'look' really suits her, don't you think??

I had both eyes corrected in March 2002 and my eyes are both now 20/10 vision (can't get any better than that!).  My surgery corrected both near-sighted and astigmatism.  PM me if you want more info.

I had both eyes done last October and it was the best thing I ever did. Don't miss glasses or contacts. I'mm 20/15 in my dominant eye and 20/30 in the other. By doing it this way, I was able to see close and distance. Cost ws $1095 per eye.
