Until I actually feel endeared to someone. Calling someone baby or sweetie or honey makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, and honestly, a bit street walker-ish, if I'm just meeting them for the first time, or if I haven't met them before. When I feel comfortable with someone, and I feel safe with them, it feels most natural to me.. and I imagine that it sounds more natural to them.
That is the one term that is a complete turn-off for me. Mainly it's because I enjoy the company of younger women and hearing that term just doesn't resonate well with me.
Completely agree with you. It just so happens that I was on an AA flight watching a Marilyn Monroe marathon to pass the time and I noticed that her characters all used the term no matter the movie (assuming she was playing her stereotypical part). The movies would never allow for it in that capacity now.
My term of endearment of choice is Sweetie or Darling, assuming you are one, of course.

Johnny if you ever visit South La. anywhere from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, Chalmette, Houma, Thibodaux etc. you will see what I mean. Everyone thinks people from the actual city of New Orleans have that accent that the crew from Duck Dynasty has, but not the case. That accent is about an hour south of New Orleans in the real Bayou Country. My entire family except my mother has it, but she is from Laurel Mass. I have had several guys say they booked me to hear my accent and I do not have one at all lol.
