Poison dart frogs are very colorful, an indication to potential predators that they are dangerous to eat.

People seem to have these tells too- not overt shows of assholery, but little traits that tend to indicate awfulness.

Is it only me, or has anybody else noticed seemingly innocuous traits that always correlate with your strong dislike for a person once you get to know them? You don't dislike them *because* of these traits, that would be silly, you just always end up disliking the people who happen to display them? If so, what are those traits?

Here are my colorful frogs- I have yet to meet a person I like that falls into one of these categories:
- People who really enjoyed high school
- Women who claim Scarlett O'Hara as a personal heroine
- People who are huge fans of Oprah, Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, et al
- People who drive ENORMOUS vehicles for no practical purpose
- Women who carry $1,000+ handbags
- Men who drive Porsches
- People who call themselves "foodies" without irony
- People who call themselves film buffs and also cite David Lynch as their favorite filmmaker
- People who claim Ayn Rand as their favorite author

.. at least I hope so. A heap of inane fucking platitudes

I used to have kind of a beater. It got me from place to place, and was reliable. After a certain point, it just became impossible for me to sell it or trade it in...so, I kept it until it finally gave out. So long as it worked, I was fine with that.

There was a guy who always used to chat w/me (for WAY too long) when I worked out. One day, he saw me standing next to my car, and had some choice comments about its age, brand, and appearance...after which, he bragged about HIS wheels. I was like, 'Dude, it's MY car. What do you care?' I thought it was hysterical that he bragged about his own car to me...I can barely tell a Toyota from a Ferrari, and couldn't care less about the difference. To me, a car is meant to get me from one place to another, with minimal gas usage and upkeep.

Generally, I don't feel a need to impress others w/money or car, etc., and I can't stand people who do, or who judge others by such criteria (also ties in w/the 1k handbag carriers you mentioned).

Some of mine would be:
1) People who point out the brands of their cars/clothing/purses/whatever, and ask me about mine - 'Oh, is that a So-and-so clutch??' (No, it's probably not...or, maybe it is, lol. I likely got it from some thrift shop and have no clue what the F brand it is)

2) People who can't read body language - who chat w/me while I am engrossed in a book, in the middle of a workout set, eating, on the phone, or just obviously concentrating on something and NOT making eye contact or prepared to engage. (Better yet, people who ask me what I'm reading, then follow up with the scintillating rejoinder, 'I haven't read a book since high school - heh heh heh.')

3) Bigots. I had a client who told me he picked me because (he thought) I didn't fuck women. After some homophobic remarks, he was like, 'Some people just see...anybody!!' I thought, 'YOU are an "anybody"'. LOL.

I guess that covers it. I don't meet that many people I dislike, but it's always fun to air pet peeves.

Oh, and sorry...I actually did kinda enjoy high school ;) But I'd never go back to those days, EVER.

BlondeRoots480 reads

I may be a bit of a hypocrite bc I can't stand pretentious people but I must admit I am a car girl.

Some cars are so fcking sexy.

Spent last weekend with a client who had an Audi s7.  It literally turned me on.  When you punch it, that thing literally pushes you back into the seat.

Another former client took me out in his new Maserati.  I don't know the model or care.  It was pristine.  He even let me drive- briefly:)  I know they're "crappy" as far as longevity/maintenance, but the interior of that thing was like BUTTER.

Who else... Ah, another client took me on a "ride" in his Ferrari, Red Convertible.  Total midlife crisis toy but it was fun.  We got on the interstate and that thing was SO FCKING FAST I literally had knots in my stomach.  Actually it was a little "too" fast for me, to the point of anxiety.  I don't know how the NASCAR guys do it.

I almost forgot.  One guy really went all out and got us a freakin Maybach for transportation from the airport to our hotel.  That was just an incredible luxury after a long flight.

Love powerful cars, particularly German cars.

and I drive 10's of thousands of miles a year... just finished a short 3,600 mile trip.. just sayin' this to establish my creds....

based on observational data, I have determined that anyone that purchases, leases, rents, or otherwise gets access to the keys of a Porsche is required to surrender their brain in exchange for said keys....

define ENORMOUS ? would that be an Abrams tank or Humvee ??

who are Scarlett O'Hara, David Lynch, Oprah, Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, and Ayn Rand ? Are they related to the Kardashians ?

I do make a gourmet PB&J, does that make be a foodie ?

Finally, I confess that I wear $1,000 boots, does that mean we can't be friends ? I hope not, cause I think it might be fun to boink you :

RroseSelavy470 reads

Vapid, superficial, image obsessed...it totally works!

I don't know, I've never met anyone who wears $1,000 boots (at least that I know of). Thankfully, the list is purely descriptive (not prescriptive), and infinitely expandable, so should I find you odious, I could always add on. However, to qualify for a new entry, a pattern must be established, so at least one other $1,000 booted individual would have to provoke my ire. Maintaining the integrity of the list is important!

I can confirm with ample documentation that I am almost as much fun to boink as I am to boff or bang.

Vapid.

Kinda fun to say, especially knowing its meaning now and the Kardashian context.

Who'd have thunk it, I've expanded my vocabulary on a fuck board, very cool, thanks for that.

I didn't hate High School, but I was a nerd when being a nerd wasn't cool, so I didn't enjoy the social aspect of it all that much, still a nerd by the way.

I drive a modest vehicle, cars get me from point A to point B. I am contemplating getting a Tesla, but only because I can be one less person contributing to foreign oil dependence and lowering emissions. But the price tag is a huge pill to swallow, and my electric bill will sky rocket. Talk about torque ratios though, and right at the wheel, holy crap. Only problem is, you can only drive 500 miles on one charge, oh shit, I've never driven 500 miles in one day, ever.

I've never paid over $100 for a pair of shoes, gotta admit though I do like the way women look it stripper/porn star shoes.

I do know who Scarlet O'hara was, and frankly my dear I don't give a damn, DOH!

I have no idea who the screenwriter or Author is.

Fun post, thanks for that

but in all fairness they "fell off the back of the truck" AND I traded for them buy giving $200 rent credit to a guy who rented a condo from me back in the 80s when getting rid of a condo in Texas was harder than getting rid of herpes, or a board troll. lol

The guy had Ostrich, Elephant Ear, Ant Eater and a half dozen different exotic skins, most of which were on the endangered species list. At one point I must have had a dozen pairs, but I think I am down to a single pair that I haven't worn in a decade.

cowhide, but the guy did have me stand on a piece of paper while he drew an outline of my foot.. no blowjob ensued though..

speaking of cowhide and blowjobs, I once tried to get a suckling calf to take me instead of a bottle, but the little bugger damned near tore it out by the root... my first, last, and only foray into bestiality...

not to say the thought never crossed my mind, but that's as far is it got...

For example:

People who ask the waiter if their chicken was caged or was able to roam free.

People who only eat organic produce even if it has a removable peel.  Like organic oranges or bananas.  (Weird I know, but the pesticides don't penetrate that thick of a peel... whatever.)

People who eat quinoa

People who pretend to be allergic to gluten bc being gluten free is in style.

Vegans.  Also people who only eat seeds, nuts, and berries.

Pescatarians who refer to themselves as such.  (Why not just say you only eat fish?)

Wine lovers who refer to themselves as oenophiles.  (" " " " )

Basically anyone I perceive as disengenuine or pretentious.  I dated a guy who was crazy about all healthy, natural crap and I wanted to tell him so badly, "Take the stick outa your ass and eat these cheesey enchiladas with me!"

Oh, 10K handbags:  BARF.

BTW, most pesticides are systemic, meaning they're IN the plant, not ON the plant.

You probably wouldn't like me anyway, I enjoy quinoa.

Take all this stuff with a grain of salt.  Half the time I've been drinking tequila or God knows what before posting.  It's all in meant in fun.  I make typos all the time.  Correct me the next time I'm wrong.  Oh you already did! :)

Oh wow! Your list makes me a quite nefarious frog. :-)
As a Pescatarian, describing my diet as "only eating fish" would not be accurate because it excludes crustaceans and cephalopods.

I though I was pretty clear but let me explain it to you:

Crustaceans = Shrimps, crabs, lobsters, crawfish, hermit crabs, krills etc.
Cephalopods = Octopuses, Squids, cuttlefishes etc.

I actually forgot to include bivalves, you know creatures like oysters, scallops, mussels etc.

Dropped a long time friend because of that. Could not stomach the bullshit. This bitch chooses her friends by the job, the car and how much money. And the people she surrounds herself with are obnoxious to say the least...hence my exit. I did not belong in that group. BTW she is short(female Napoleon complex) and has a weak chin....read something about people with weak chins and for the life of me cant remember what it is but it relates to the subject.

Back about 30 years ago it seemed like every yuppie who made over $25K a year bought a fucking "beemer" I went from actually liking the cars to despising them due to the pretentious little cunts (both male and female) who drove them, and I still haven't bought one to this day.

Yeah, I get your disgust with those kind of people. They are the same ones that you can pour a ten dollar wine out of a bottle with a five hundred dollar label and they will go all gaga about how great it is. Most people like that have no real "taste" of their own, they need others to tell them how great something is and then they parrot the so called "expert"

BlondeRoots384 reads

A new 5 series (white) was my dream car for a very long time.  I used to drool and admire them on the road. Never bought one because it wouldn't make sense for a variety of reasons.  Maybe some day.

The German dudes do make high-quality performance vehicles.

It's not so bad anymore, but if you had been in Dallas Texas during the oil boom and the advent of the YUPPIE, you'd know exactly why I feel how I feel.

I did almost buy an M6 several years back, but ended up buying an XLRV Caddy instead, my ex hooker secretary used to call it my "batman car" It would fly too. I have to confess, I do "like" nice cars, but I am hardly a "car person" and impressing someone by the car you drive went out in high school where I come from. If you want to impress someone, show them your jet, not your car.

BlondeRoots411 reads

Sexy.

M6s also.  Sexy.

I am a major car whore.  I love horsepower.  Luxury.  Speed.  Performance.

Since I don't have one, I get to lust vicariously through those who do

High maintenance cars who always end up with electrical issues and break down often. I don't get why anyone would ever want one given after about five years the're in the shop more often than on the road. And to make things worse they cost way more than most to fix or even do basic maintenence on. They are almost as bad as Land Rovers and Jaguars. Almost.

I own a used car dealership and I have had more issues with BMW per car than any other make than Land Rover and Jaguar. If what I said is blasphemy it may be I insulted Ugo a bit to much by comparing them. After a few years they become huge money pits. Just trust me on this

For the sleek styling and the handling.I am a big car gal but I do have to agree with you regarding certain german cars. What a nightmare.VW and Audi two of the worst cars I owned.
Every time I took the car in for repairs ching ching goes the register.lol
So many electrical problem the check engine lights were on almost as much as my headlights.lol
Okay maybe a little exaggeration regarding the check engine light but it was a regular occurrence.
I got as a gift years ago from a family member an old mercedes roadster that is another one nothing but a headache.I keep it in the garage with a car cover over it.Too much of a hassle.
After both of those nightmares I went the American muscle car route have never been happier and love the speed:

Ok, what red flag does veganism throw??? I don't eat meat or dairy because I find consuming animal products gross. I have had no problem cooking/ preparing meat and dairy products for ex-boyfriends who didn't share my dietary restrictions. I never complained, reprimanded, or tried to "convert" anyone to the dark side (veganism). Live and let live. In fact. I find that meat/dairy- eaters bring up my diet and give me a lot more opposition and try to argue MY choices much more than I even think about what they eat.

Call this a red flag? I call it a simple, personal choice that at times I'm actually shamed for. People who think it's funny to trick vegans into eating animal products then telling them after the fact are the real disingenuous parties. I never preach about what I choose to put in my body, but am somehow labeled as pretentious for a personal preference. I'm sure everyone has at least one food or drink they will not eat for whatever reason, so does that make us all a bunch of stuck-up liars?

How about you don't care what I choose to eat (or not eat) and I'll continue to not care in the very least what you eat, cheesy enchiladas or otherwise?

I think everyone should get to adopt the gender version that works for them, but let's not re-invent the language to do it.
I mean, in the old days people with an "intellectual deficit" were known as "morons" or "idiots." So the word "retarded" was invented.  Then that became an insult.  So now we have "developmentally disabled." How long will it take to be politically incorrect?  And what will be the PC replacement? Semi-Einstein? Partially-brilliant?
Let's give everyone a trophy!

I guess you will despise me roflmao

I meet:

- People who really enjoyed high school (4 yrs cheer, yearbook, newspaper, president/vp, organized rallies, decorated floats, dances, homecoming queen, princess, sr prom queen, jr prom royalty, in theater 4 years, voted best eyes, and most likely to become a actress) lol

- Women who claim Scarlet O'Hara as a personal heroine .....she is?

- People who are huge fans of Oprah, Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, et al yes

- Women who carry $1,000+ handbags ...prada, michael kors are my faves

RroseSelavy439 reads

Correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation, I am very open to meeting awesome people that break the pattern and thus nullify the red flag!

One thing I'd love to know, because I find it fascinating- what's likable about Scarlett? I could barely get through the movie and especially the book because I find her so repellent a character...she's terminally shallow, manipulative, narcissistic, selfish, and cruel. What am I missing? I'm genuinely interested in your insight.

scarlett was
a rebel, determined and loyal (at least to those things she felt deserved her loyalty). She did not accept the conformities of society and did what she damn well pleased. She was direct and not afraid to express her opinion even though it would probably get her in trouble. She was passionate about what was important to her

But when faced with obstacles that can be changed, but seemed unachievable, there was no one more determined than Scarlett. Through war, bad marriages, near rape and starvation, Scarlett always found a way to survive. She had an end goal, Tara, and she never let anyone or anything push her off her path towards securing her Tara. She did what she had to do, she sacrificed, lied, cheated, stole, and whereas, that probably wouldn’t fly today, and I am not 100% on board for the whole “end justifies the means” I do admire and appreciate her drive and yes, her positive attitude. If she had withered up in a ball and cried, if she had given up faith, she would have never got what she wanted.

She’s a survivor; in fact, when Margaret Mitchell was asked to basically define the theme of her novel, she said it was simply about “survival.” And Scarlett is the ultimate survivor. She thrashes against fate to stay alive, and then she sticks it to everyone who doubted her in the most delicious way possible.
Scarlett was an early feminist, even before women had the right to vote! She was the epitomy of what a woman of the times could only dream of becoming. Rather than "mourn" her late husband, she was a lady that moved on to the next man to suite her own needs. She was also a land owner, who owned and ran her own business...taking much criticism for it. She single handedly saved Tara...whereas many men lost their homes due to incompetancy! Scarlett was a leader in her own right, and many other women feared her out of pure jealously of her confidence and beauty. She was also envied by many, and many men couldn't handle what she had to offer.

She was determined to not let life's hardships get her down. Even though she almost lost Tara to the Yankees, she didn't let this get her down...and vowed to march on and declare "I'll never be hungry again."

Scarlett possesses remarkable talent for business and leadership. She recovers her father’s plantation, Tara, after the war leaves it decimated, and she achieves great success with her sawmill in Atlanta

lol I cant agree or have similar insights

But categorization is essential to perception, no? How else would we sort our sensory input?

Thankfully, this is a pretty harmless exercise in categorization. I'm about 46% serious with my silly observations, after all.

which is too bad because I'm one of the most universally likable people you could ever meet.

People who read the classics, hated them but did just so they can say they did.

People who tend to always do what is "right" or "traditional"  even if it makes no sense and they loathe every minute.

Sycophants period.

My original premise got a little lost...I have found that the people I've met who say David Lynch is their favorite filmmaker, I also end up not liking. I don't dislike them because of their film tastes, just noting a correlation.

That being said, and at the risk of nerding out on film,  he's definitely not my favorite. I enjoy Eraserhead, Blue Velvet and some of Twin Peaks, but find his more recent work tedious- just a matter of taste. Full props for being an original, though.
