for a variety of reasons. But primarily because no-shows are quite frequent. The providers on the boards often complain about no-shows from clients and how inconvenient and rude it is. They're right, and it goes both ways. The ladies on the boards are mostly reputable, considerate and self-respecting. I expect that they give plenty of notice in the event they have to cancel. But many providers, at least here in the SF area, will just not show, or show up several hours past the erection.

Did you not give her your number so she could contact you? If you gave her a cell number WITHOUT a voicemail, it's conceivable why she couldnt reach you to cancel? Did you contact her since then? Did you give it a couple of days in case she tried to reach you back?
Is she a reputable provider? Perhaps you would have been ripped off anyway, so maybe she actually did you a favor by not showing up?
Did she screen you? If not, maybe she got scared? Maybe she is a newbie too?
At any rate, she most likely would not have flaked on the sole basis of your being a newbie.
