But of course you can ask admin for a new one. In any case we all knew the one alias thing wouldn't work when it was first announced, and you actually quickly proved it with your little experiment.
But I think I finally figured out why they went with the single alias (Well I figured it out a couple months ago). It's because they knew they were doing away with the mods, and the current admin mods don't read the boards, and only moderate when someone reports a post. So they now have no way of enforcing the rule of people posting with their username and alias in the same thread. Back in the day when we had mods, they had to be on top of the boards and watching for that rule among all their other duties. Now if the only means of moderating is people reporting posts, then the person reporting would have to know someone's alias to know if they are posting with their username and alias on the same post. So it is a lot harder to crack down on that rule, and would be inpossible to crack down on with multiple aliases.
Now I am not backing this policy at all. I think we need multiple aliases. I also think we need mods who read the boards. Just giving my theory as to their reason. Then again I keep trying to figure out a lot of their changes and keep scratching my head.
really understand aliases anyway. I say what I want to say without hiding behind a smoke screen. I realize some will "lose all respect for me" JK Macy, for speaking my mind but I see no need for a different persona. I can barely keep up with the original me, LOL
I don't give a fuckin' rat's ass about anything. If I want to say it I will say it. But, I, too have used aliases in the past. There are scenarios where use of alias is valid..
If you want to share some sensitive information to the community, without attracting much attention to you - is one example. Also if you want to out a BSC provider, without her WKs reporting the same to her, is another example. With, only one alias, it severely cripples one's ability to do so effectively.
Last but not the least, aliases can be used for humor. The boards were lot more fun when aliases were around. I used to have at least 100, one for each occasion. Not trying to hide from anyone per say, but just for comic relief. And you should have seen DA's aliases.. They were laugh-out-loud hilarious.
I definitely see the humor aspect, great for one line zingers. I haven't seen much of that though, as it seems some are doing it just to be assholes and fuck up a board discussion.
thats about it..i have never used an alias and never will..i see no point..why would i want to be someone else when im me..it is a simplified method of throwing some shit around based on the premise of trying not to get caught..8 year olds are good at it..the mentality of some of these so called aliases certainly match that persona..as the song goes 'clowns to the left of me..jokers to the right..stuck in the middle with you'..
...thinks about me!! That's why I don't use an alias i gotta be me!!

The one alias I have is even more precious than my handle, and I won't use it even under extreme duress. It's time to return to to the old TER, warts and all. The main problem that the old board had was poor or corrupt moderation, which could have been remedied by aggressive policing by Admin. and the membership. If I am wrong, why?
