For example I just got an estimate to repair the ABS module on my car for $1800.  Well I told the dealership I was going to have to get a few other quotes because that was a lot of money, yet last week I didn't think twice about spending $1k on a 3 hour session and $2k on a six hour session with two different providers.  $3k out the door in a week for a few hours of fun with little thought, but I'm giving the service rep at the Audi  dealership a hard time about an $1800 repair that will add to the useful life of the vehicle and provide far more than a few hours of benefit (albeit less enjoyable).

Anybody else have these types of moments?

I use to make that type of decision to see the provide first and the bills. Not any more. I use do things such as bag lunch to save for the hobby and not do 401K contributions, not anymore.

I started the 401K contributions in 2006 and have accumulated 80K.

and there is nothing more important than pussy.

I didn't think twice about the ass, but I was bitchin' about the A6.

you're an interesting combination of cheapskate and original thinker.  at least you're not a follower.  i'm sure you'll take all of this as the compliment it was meant to be.  btw, pm me, i'd like to borrow some of the money you have buried in coffee cans in your back yard...

Late night I had a car date with a BP girl running a $40 special. I tipped her a $50 and a free breakfast at Denny's card.

I even dropped her off at Denny's. ;)

a shopper for other things, and I'm pretty careful about those purchases also.

TER makes it easy and fun to do so.

I used to be more carefree with how I spent, but these days I am a lot more careful.

I use to hobby 3x-4x a month, but got a brand new $60K+ car now .. so I'm cutting down to 1X-2X a month.  I'm planning to pay the car off next year.   Of the 4 ladies i see a month,  2 are TOFTT since I like to try new ladies.

I use to spend a lot on the hobby (last year and early this year) and some TOFTT experience are a waste of money, so I screen better and stick to the ladies that are really worth it .. and decided to get myself a sports car that I really want.  So, I've cut out girls that I don't think is worth my while and afford myself a better car.  I will still probably TOFTT but will only go for it once in a while  :)

You probably got an older A6 that's out of warranty ... I got a brand new S5 bro and still keeping my older A6 :)

S5 is sweet.  I test drove one when they gave me the bill for the ABS repair:).  Of course if I cut my hobby a bit, I could just get the R8, which with the AWD, I could drive all winter long in New England.

I have one of the earliest S5s.  An '08 that I got right at the end of '07.  Still in love with it.  Does everything well, but the main thing is it sticks like glue.

Same here, but I think it's because when I hobby, TER (and to a less certain degree) other sites are already out there to give me a whole bunch of price and service comparisons.  When I book a provider, I already know what the second, third and fourth "opinions" are.  Thus, I have confidence that a price of x only involves getting screwed in one (or two or three) ways - well, you know what I mean.  I mean YMMV, but a provider isn't going to take one look at me, say "he knows nothing about women" and jack up the previously posted price as a result.
