Did anyone watch it tonight? I thought it was interesting and will definately watch the other 2 episodes.
The girl that plays DG is awful cute and pretty smart...too bad she's not a provider :)

I have it on Tivo and will watch all of it at once on a lazy day.

Tivo is something that I don't know how I lived without before getting it.

For me- I really can't stand the commercials.  Before getting DVR I leaned heavily toward shows like Law & Order (SVU to be exact, lol) because they are selfcontained and if I do happen to catch an episode I know who everyone is- and know that the conclusion will be reached, typically.  Now I can watch regular sitcoms because I can watch 5 or 6 episodes in a row, minus the commericals.

Gotta love technology!  I used to think I would have been better suited to grow up in the late 50's but I realize as of late, I am really blessed to live now.  So much technology, information,  and music (and I still can listen to the 60's music I adore). Maybe if I'm lucky, when I am old woman, a 15 yr old will figure out how I can see Janis Joplin sing "Try" at Woodstock.

When I was an undergrad there was so much musical talent emerging on a daily basis that I assumed it would never end.  Boy, was I wrong.  The abundance of musical riches that we had during that period was followed by decades of mediocrity.  I feel sorry for the younger generations who only know today's over-produced pop "stars," whose media machines spend $ millions to convince us they have talent when it's obvious they don't.  Nobody had to spend millions to convince us that Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, or The Doors had talent

In light of all this, I suppose it's easy for younger generations to glamorize the icons of the 60's, and there's plenty of reason for that based on their work alone.   But it was obvious to even the casual observers at the time, that many of our most beloved talents were on an inevitable course to self-destruction.  The arc of some of their short-lived careers began and ended within my college years.  So sad.

Thankfully, the tape machines were running, so they'll always be with us.

My observations have led me to believe that it is usually those that have endured much hardship and/or border madness that are typically the most talented.  It's the way they lived life so raw and to it's fullest that allowed them to make such great music.  I think that theme appealed to me as a teenager because of my harsh upbringing- I could relate to the bittersweetness of life.  One of my favorite lines in all of music is Dillion- "please let me forget about today...until tomorrow".  Classic and anyone who's suffered and sought release (alcohol, drugs, shopping, hobbying?) knows exactly what that desparate request means.

Another that I mourn- Freddy Mercury.  Honestly, I am not sure anyone (Beatles, Hendrix, Elton John, etc) could rival that man's muscial chops.  In the short time he made music he was so diverse.  How the hell he thought up Bohemian Rapsody I'll never know- but I'm glad he did.

Well, I'm not sure but I don't think she liked it :)
I guess my problem is I don't really analyze the movies I watch. I just like or dislike them based on their own merits and my own tastes.
One thing I thought was funny about her blog is talks about how letting kids watch it was a bad idea and how pure the original was but them puts a picture she says is from one of the original books of 2 woman kissing on the lips. Now personally that kind of thing is enjoyable to me (my hobby fantasy :)) but I'm thinking that many might find that more offensive than the so called darkness of this current story.

That illustration was from the original book, which was considered (then) as very suitable for children.

It was not at all considered unsuitable for two women to kiss to show non-sexual affection for each other.

Makes you think, doesn't it?

The girl is played by Zooey Deschanel, who was wonderful in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  Her sister is Emily Deschanel, who plays the lead in the T.V. series, "Bones".

I had the Tin Man show on as I went to bed, so I dozed through much of it.  Pretty interesting concept.  Very dark.  Wizard of Oz purists hate to see their paradise questioned (see link in post above), but this is OK.  I liked the big production play "Wicked", though I was not fond of the book, which I read after the play. The book was depressing, hopeless.

but, I don't really "like it". I'm more intrigued by seeing where it goes. If I did not know it was based on the Wizard of Oz, I would have turned it off. It is just entertaining enough to indulge my intrigue.

I personally prefer the Wicked Witch myself.

It's interesting in it's own right, but those who were looking for something akin the original Wizard were bound to be disappointed, as it is a somewhat dark melodrama based tenuously on the original.  Typical Sci-Fi...if you have watched Battlestar Galactica, you know the feeling...dark take-off of the original, except that Tin Man is more a creation of it's own.  Despite that, it's interesting enough to watch the next part...there's nothing else worth watching on the tube at this point...can't wait for 24, The Wire, and BS Galactica to start their new seasons...until then, this will have to do!  Damn, need to find a provider to play with this week... :)
