Adult Entertainer = Works in Gentlemen's clubs, porno movies

Provider / Escort = What most ladies do for a living in this website. My personal preference is Provider not Escort.

Slut = Street walker with a pimp

Whore = Street walker without a pimp

To sum it up, I call the ladies here on this website Providers and that's the word I have used for many years.

It's all a matter of semantics and perspective:

Working girls: "I'm an adult entertainer."

Clients: "I need to book an escort."

TER denizens: "Which provider gives the best BBBJ?"

Clients' wives: "I'll kill you if I ever catch you paying for sex with sluts."

Religious types: "You're all going to hell for patronizing whores."

Ha.

"Virtuous sex worker"? I don't think you can realistically use those words together in that configuration. There is nothing "virtuous" about engaging in illegal activities or empowering husbands to violate the sanctity of their marriages to their wives.

I'm not judging people for their actions but merely calling out the nonsensical term "virtuous sex worker".

I hate using the term prostitute because that makes both the provides and me look bad..

I would prefer "private fun partner", not one of the choices listed though...

I would never call anyone those last two things as it not only demans them but others.

If a person is a virtuous sex worker, then I'd use the term escort, provider, stripper, or even goddess to describe them.

Otherwise, a term like rip-off bitch might me appropriate, no offense to female dogs.

...Sally Fields defined whore as a 16 year old with a bad reputation. In the movie she was an escort. A guy "liked" her.  Attempting to be insulting during an argument he called her a whore. Her response to him was the comment about a 16 year old.
I prefer the terms escort or provider. No I wouldn't call an Adult Entertainer/Provider/Escort a slut or a whore.

I use the word "whore" affectionately, just as I use "hooker" and "slut".  
I like all for bed, but when communicating with a client or advertising "companion" or "provider" is fine.
If someone were to attempt to use these words on me as an insult...well, whatever.  
Words only have as much meaning as you give them and these only serve to make me laugh or arouse me.

But I like the formalities ("companion")...and I like when the formalities fall away during sex play.

I am probably playing mental gymnastics when I rationalize that I am paying to spend time with a courtesan  or escort - much more like consensual sex which our modern society openly condones and accepts.  Why should it make a diffrence if the hookup takes place thorugh a website or internet site as opposed to at a party, in the office  or at a bar.
The other terms, whore, prostitute and slut are demeaning and cheapening

The other terms sound like euphemisms for prostitutes. That would be misleading for ladies obviously  in the hospitality industry, and not selling sex.

Nice reach. Last I heard, LE didn't conduct stings to catch those who used services of or were employed by the hospitality industry. Ha.

I don't take it personally anyways. LOL!

But to give my opinion to the OP, I think of an adult entertainer as someone who's going to give a show, so if you want to call me that then bring some popcorn, sit back and relax! I think of whore as someone who's just out to get it by any means necessary and slut just someone who doesn't care, and anyone can have a turn. Provider is a little nicer but then it begs the question, what do you provide? And the term escort, make me think well honey who are you trying to fool? Hilarious!

All the ladies that choose to do this fit into these categories one way or another and it just depends on how they present themselves and the type of company they're trying to entertain. It just is what it is.

I think hobbying would be a lot "healthier" if both clients and working girls shared your pragmatic perspective. It really is simply all about having the cash in the envelope. Nothing more, nothing less.

You are exactly correct with your pragmatic perspective. The customer is never wrong, even when he is wrong. If more businesses adopted your mantra, then they would be more successful than they currently are.

The law does not decide what is virtuous, as morality transcends the legal code. One does not need to necessarily be "virtuous" to know that sex workers are not "virtuous" by definition.

Let's face it. If any of us were truly virtuous, we would NOT be involved in this hobby at all.

I don't let the laws decide for me what is and what isn't viruous; and besides, as hobbyists, we are in no condition to call any kettles black.
