TER General Board

Just read a report on teen sex on CNN this morning that said that one of the biggest forms of

pressure that teenagers feel to have sex was not the typical image of pressure put on girls by boys, but pressure put on boys by other boys.

Somehow the first thing that came to mind was all the sexual swaggering in many TER reviews, much of it much embellished, just like the much embellished encounters with girls that teenage boys tell each other about.

It seems to me that it's always good to rememember that what makes a man a man is the ability to be reponsible, dependable, and committed, and to teach our sons that.  I've got a 19 year old son, and I think he's getting the message right.

Thanks to both of you  gentleMEN (capitalization intentional)

Yes, a man treats others with respect...
I believe what makes a man a man is integrity.

Someone told me recently,
"Respect is what you earn when others are watching,
Integrity is what you earn when no one is watching."

I'm a regular reader, an occasional poster, and an occasional hobbyist.  I don't think my activities in this area demonstrate responsibility, dependability or committment, since I am married after all.  I have my own justifications but I am not so self-delusional that I think this reflects good character.

Frustrated Parents Chain Up Wild Teen Boys

A Lakeland, Fla., woman who told police she would chain up
her teenage sons to keep them from committing crime is now
behind bars herself.

Karen Abe, 35, and her ex-husband, Allen Abe, 61, tethered
their 13-year-old and 16-year-old sons to their bed with
heavy chains and padlocks from 9:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. for
about a week, according to a police affidavit. The parents
were arrested Saturday and charged with felony child abuse.

But Karen Abe had told authorities she could not control
the boys - who were arrested on charges of stealing a
neighbor's car - and said that she did not want them back
when police released them from a juvenile facility. Chaining
them up was the only way to control them, said the mother,
who has no past criminal history.

We told him he had to do three things before he could live at home again (he was always welcome for dinner, to do laundry, or just visit, but he couldn't LIVE here).  They where:

1.  We figured with all the things he'd stolen from us, he owed us about $1000.  He had to pay us $200 as a show of good faith.

2.  He had to have full-time employment (or several jobs totalling forty hours per week), and we had to see the check stubs.

3.  He had to enter counselling.  Now we realized we could easily be part of the problem, so we'd attend, too.  And we'd pay for the sessions.  But HE had to make the arrangements.

Rather than do these things, he chose to actually live in an abandoned Gas Company shack, using a drop cloth as a blanket (during a New Jersey winter).

Today, he's a chef at the Foxwoods Casino complex in Connecticut, he's getting married to a real sweetheart on 6-Sep, and he and I have never been closer.

Go figure.

And because of the specific details in your post - he also just figured out who you are.  Then he got a TER membership so he could see exactly how many reviews you've written and is planning on compiling this information to deliver to his mother unless you pay him a tidy sum.

Your blackmailing son,

Cute.  Very cute.  Of course, he'd need a ouija board to tell his mom, so I feel pretty safe.
