TER General Board

The Polanski thread below wasn't really about Polanski or the oscars. It was about child abuse.

It reminded me of the earlier thread started by Mara's post, which got way out of hand because it hit some raw nerves because many people knew cancer victims.

People who have been the victims of child abuse, or had loved ones victimized, have a raw nerve on this subject.  Their reactions are very understandable.

Not sure though if they are the ones who should be making the decisions about how others should react.

The thread had nothing to do with any decisions about how people should react. Please see below for what the question was:

"This guy fled the country to escape sentencing after agreeing to a plea. He's been a fugitive from justice since 1977, and he's nominated for the Best Director Award, and the Best Movie Award.

Opinions please, should child molesters/fugitives from Justice be rewarded with accolades for their artistry?

What should be done with Polanski and why?"

I don't see anything in there that dictates terms for the way people should react. Do you? If so please explain how and why.

Thanks,

HPG

You started the thread with a question.  From then on, you made continual comments about whether people were answering your question.

That's not how discussion groups work.  The fact that you started the thread with a question does not give you "ownership" of the thread, which is what you seem to think you were entitled to.  Threads take on a life of their own, as people make comments and, yes, CHANGE THE SUBJECT.  The thread starter has no right to require that people "stay on track".

We are all a group of independent-minded adults, and your attitude is not likely to go over well.

Check your ego at the door, and join the rest of us.

They meander almost as much as cats, that's fine. I was after opinons and I got plenty of the both pro and con. I did press people to take a stand because I wanted to know their reasons. Seems to me that's what discussing is all about.

The only rules, or guidelines as to the way the boards "work" are what I saw when I first signed up for a VIP membership which for the National Board Are:

"Discussion Board Rules
Please don't post messages that are mean, use foul language, or that reveal sensitive information about other people. These posts will be deleted. The following breakdown of the TER discussion boards should help get you get started…"

If you look at my other posts, and originating posts you'll see that. This case was different, that's all. Deal with it.

Besides, at least I'm posting withoug hiding behind a second alias. I stand behind my questions and my posts.

Cheers,

HPG
