TER General Board

How we might all benefit from this...

I am all for free speech and I condemn the measures brought against CL to shut down parts of our site.

But, we, as legitimate hobbyists and providers of this site, might actually stand to benefit.  How?  Well, these ads are going to move to other sites, and I think we are going to see an influx of a subset of those former CL ads on review sites.  That subset will probably be mostly legit providers looking for other places to advertise.

They would be new providers with little or no review history and therefore work hard to build up their review history.  More selection for hobbyists, and a richer professional network for providers.

Plus, those moving to TER will probably be less likely to run fly-by-night, bait-and-switch operations.  By the very nature of the review system, they would have to be legit if they wanted to survive in business.

It already is being flooded with ads from providers.

Here are some examples:

"Hey fellas !! I am Leah, a hot, horny Mature, Experienced Woman!! I was placed on this world to provide you with an unrushed, sensual exciting experience !!!

Both are more or less carbon copies of craigslist. Cityvibe I think is free and backpage charged a small verification fee.

Only a matter of time before everyone migrates to those two alternative sites if they have not already.

It's an election year so these kinds of BS crackdowns are to be expected. Do you have a local prosecutor or attorney general up for reelection this year? Get ready for them to start making sweeps so they can protect ... someone from ... uh, other people having sex. Or whatever.

I hate our society sometimes.

....erotic/adult services are still up outside of the Puritanical/Hypocritical US of A.

I stopped visiting Tijuana when the violence got bad; may have to rethink that decision.  For all the problems Mexico has, they are smart enough slightly regulate the oldest profession by requiring the senoritas to obtain health cards.

You may not have to re visit Tijuana. Instead, US based posters may possibly post in a non US city listing on CL,  but specify in their ads or taglines,  that they are actually provide in a location in the USA. This is just a preliminary thought as I have not investigated the possibility in depth.

Fuck the 1st Amendment squashing DAs or AGs.

We would be better off without such a societal, governmental stick up our collective ass.

Feds won the big dog fight with CL and will move to the puppies who will soon be on a leash. It's not good to see this happen for any of us.

What about sites that hosted on foreign land, like TER?  They can't touch TER.

The most they can do require all ISPs to block TER.  If it gets to that point,
you can bet American would be on the fast track to Fascism.

When the whole file sharing brou-ha-ha developed about ten years ago.

Meanwhile, there are umpteen million other sites to find pirated music on.

Sure, this will put an end to prostitution just like "Just say no." put an end to drug use.

My philosphy is:  "Never wear the largest bulls eye."

we would see a string of posts complaining about conservatives trying to run our lives.

Just goes to show that all politicians are hypocritical grandstanders.

I am sure those who had LE ads won't be pleased. LE will have to scramble and go to other sites to do reverse stings.

it will take a while but if there is a product people will buy and someone willing to supply no amount of goverment or laws can stop supply and demand.

Someon will set up an off shore website offering the same services as CL, BP and Cityibe. They may wait until the state AG's thin out the competion but someone will offshore this service.

Take a look at online gambling. They sure shut that down in a hurry.

In the end they will lose any possibility of control and no taxes. Never understaminate the stupidity of the goverment. Death, taxes and goverment stupidity will always be with us. We will eliminate prostution and poverty long before we get rid of that trificta.

The politicians are saying human trafficking and child prostitution.  For those that have used the site or talked to providers.  I bet that is small, small, small percent that do that (if any).

What really sucks is that the providers that use that section can't make money anymore.  Screw the politicians.  They don't understand anything.

we'll have to find other sites and other means to advertise. CL was quantifiably better for me than BP as far as getting terrific clients, but even in the two days since CL put up the "censored" tag, my calls from BP have increased.

Can you just see the irony, though: CL knew they were being censored and used that word instead of "closed"...
